NEW: Coach placement in this group happens after try-outs. Read on.
The Pre-Team consists of swimmers who can swim across the diving well without physical assistance (half the length of the pool) but need additional help before they are ready to swim in a full swim team practice. Swimmers must show that they have a general understanding of freestyle and are familiar with the basic components of the stroke. If your child has already been an 8U swimmer on OFST or a year-round, competitive swim team, or their winter FINS coach recommends 8U placement, sign them up on the regular online registration now.
Pre-team members are full members of the OF Swim Team. While on Pre-Team, swimmers are eligible to participate in B Meet Kickboard races. When the coaches feel pre-team swimmers are ready to swim stroke events in a swim meet, they will speak with the pre-teamer and his/her parents. Coaches will then make recommendations for meet events based on the swimmers' abilities.
The week of 6/5/17, coaches will conduct swimmer evaluations. Preteam/Little Eagles tryout signups will be opened in early May. Coaches will make placement recommendations by 6/9/17. If the child is not ready for Pre-Team, parents have the following options: private lessons with our coaches and lifeguards, FINS group lessons at OF, and/or registering that child as a Little Eagle, our youngest learn to swim group at Old Farm.
Pre-Team and Little Eagles season officially ends with the Celine Silver Mini-Meet at Tilden Woods Pool on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
