Piglets.…First Strokes Toward Swim Team

Many young children who love being in the water and are in the early stages of swimming may not yet be ready to swim for the team. To prepare young swimmers for swim team, Springbrook offers a program called “Piglets” for youngsters who have had some experience in the water and can swim close to a pool width, and who aspire to swim for the team. Coaches and assistants will be in the water with the children to help quickly develop the child into a safe and capable swimmer. The children will receive lots of encouragement and support. The goal of this program is to graduate young swimmers to the regular swim team. The Piglets are considered part of the swim team in every respect, except they do not participate in meets. Therefore, the parents do not have to sign up to work at swim meets, unless they have a child on the swim team already. A pre-season “try-out” to evaluate the swimming ability of Piglets will be held to help determine the appropriate level of instruction for each child. Springbrook’s team development coordinator, Kim Graham, is in charge of this year’s Piglet program. The head Piglet coach is Haley Strausser.
