How does Mesa Aquatics qualify for the
ECA Tax Credit? Mesa Aquatics is
sponsored by Mesa Public Schools as an extracurricular
activity that helps students develop qualities such as
leadership, team play, and cooperation, as well as, provide safe,
supervised activities during after school hours.
What is a tax
credit?Atax credit is a
dollar-for-dollar reduction in the actual tax owed. For example, if
you owe $800 in state income taxes and you donate $400 to a public
school for extracurricular activities, you may subtract the $400
from your tax bill and pay the state just $400.
Who is eligible? This
tax credit is available to all Arizona individual taxpayers
regardless of whether or not they have children in school. An
individual can contribute and receive a tax credit for any amount
up to $200, or a couple filing jointly can contribute up to
$400.
How do I make sure my payment is used for
the tax credit? When you pay your fees for
swimming, the payment goes to the accounting department that
collects ECA donations. You do not need to fill out any other
forms. Your payment is automatically applied to your tax
credit account.
Do I have to live within the Mesa Public
Schools District? No, Any individual who pays
Arizona State income tax can donate.
Can others (besides the parent/guardian)
pay the fees and still use the tax credit?
Yes, other individuals (grandparents, relatives,
friends, etc.) can pay the fees and receive the tax
credit
Your tax credit receipt will be mailed to you in
January.
