Announcements

·        We have asked by the staff at SMSC to make sure that all swimmers are picked up before the pool closes at 7pm.  It puts a burden on both the coaching staff and the SMSC staff to have to delay exiting the premises.

·        Please remember that before December 31st, 2009, families need to fill in their USS forms so that they are registered for 2010.  If would like to send the form in yourself, please see your coach or contact Coach Jon.  Otherwise, simply send in a check for $55 made out to Southern California Swimming .

·        As the draw closer to the December championship meets, it is important that families are aware of the time standards necessary to participate in both the AG Champs meet and Sectionals.  Please consult the standards before committing to the meet.

·        It is imperative that swimmers remember that when they arrive at practice, there is dedicated time for stretching which swimmers are expected to take part in.  The coaching staff takes this time very seriously and we have reached a point where we will remove swimmers from practice who continue to disrespect the stretching time.  During this time of intense training, we want to do all we can to make sure swimmers are prepared to practice effectively and not get injured.

·        Information about upcoming December closures for both the Santa Monica Swim Center (SMSC) and Lincoln Middle School (LMS) are now on the website.  Please take note of these dates and stay tuned for the schedule for December as it is confirmed.  If the closures and schedule adjustments have a negative impact on your ability to make practice, and you wish to go inactive for the quarter, please contact Patrick Casey (pcasey@brentwoodcc.net), before the 11.20.09 billing.

SR Update – Coach Jon

A job well done goes out to the 48 swimmers who attended the Santa Maria Tri-meet this past Saturday and departed with victories over both Clovis Swim Club and Bakersfield Swim Club.  The spirit and competitiveness that the team showed will go a long way towards getting us ready for our December meets.  The Senior group can look forward to a continued dose of shorter intense main sets as we try to make sure all the details are covered as we get race ready for the Winter Championship season.

Coach Tim Quotable (Sr Development) "Only the mediocre are always at their best." - Jean Giraudoux, French novelist, essayist, diplomat & playwright (1882-1944)

Belated congratulations go to Se Hyun (Sam) Yang for his outstanding attendance in October.  No swimmer in the SDT Group came within 7 of his workout total for the month.  Well done, Sam!

The group completed a grueling three week training phase and capped it off with some top-notch performances in Santa Maria and Fullerton last weekend.  The swimmers battled fatigue (and, in Santa Maria’s case, the cold) and won some close races, which led to victories in 2 of 3 duel meets in Santa Maria and new best times at both locations.  I am feeling very good about where we are as a group, currently, which makes me excited for the last few meets of 2009.  I hope you are all excited, too!

PLEASE make your health the top priority, as always.  Remember that rest, nutrition and hydration are each components of a healthy lifestyle, but there are plenty of other components, too.  Use good judgment when it comes to matters concerning your body.

Good luck to ALL team members competing in the Cranberry Classic in Santa Clarita this weekend!  Train with extra attention to detail as you tune up to race.  Prepare as you want to perform so there will be less to worry about on race day.

Go TSM!

Coach Monique (Sr. Development)

EXTREMELY PLEASED is how I would describe how I feel about this weeks practice and the results of the the Tri-Meet in Santa Maria .  We had some really great swims and some amazing relays to watch.  I Hope everyone enjoyed the College format of racing to score......... I know i sure did. Looking forward to another week of hard work by everyone and then we will back off a little.  Keep up the good work!

Coach Ryan (Blue 1 & Blue 2)

Blue 1 and Blue 2: Last weeks practices went very well. I am very pleased with how hard you all have been training. We have the Canyons Meet this weekend. Please go over your goals before practice. This will keep them fresh in your mind and remind you what you are training for. See you all on Monday. Let’s keep practice attendance high!!!

Coach Mary (Red, Pre-Competitive)

Hey TSM!!!!

Cranberry Classic this weekend!!!!! We will be reviewing our race skills...dives, starts, turns, etc, this week. Please keep bringing water to practice and wearing the proper clothes.

I hope everyone has had a great and restful weekend.

Just a reminder to Red Group....

I encourage everyone to commit to the Blue, Red, White meet held at Rose Bowl on the weekend of December 5th and 6th. This meet is a lot of fun and TSM would like a strong showing. Deadline to commit is November 20th. Let’s get this done early so coaches can enter events.

See you at practice,

Coach Mary

Coach Erin (Pre-Competitive)

PC

Not a whole lot to report this week. Stay posted as we reach the end of the week; Morgan and I will be updating everyone on the Winter/Holiday schedule.

-If you ordered suits, please be sure to ask either coach for your merchandise.

- ERIN ’S CLASSES do not need fins this week. We will be reviewing kicking on our backs and stomach, however we will mainly focus on breaststroke kick.

Please be sure to stay warm and healthy, the cold season has caught so many of us. Remind your swimmer that it is important to bring dry towels, warm clothes, socks and shoes, and I do prefer that swimmers wear hats after practice. We need our swimmers to develop healthy habits to ward of the flu. I have seen many of our swimmers, parents, and coaches under the weather at some point this fall....lets do our best and keep us all healthy for the winter.

A fun idea for your swimmer... after your swimmer has a good practice, treat them with a cup of hot chocolate, apple cider, or whatever warm drink your young swimmer enjoys. This will be a fun treat for your swimmer to look forward to.  It will also help push your swimmer along through the winter. The winter time is hard for swimmers, it is cold and that’s enough to turn them off. We need to work as a support system to keep the swimmers interested and progressing. If you have suggestions for me please be sure to email me, I welcome all suggestions.

Have a great week and see you on deck!!!!
