FUNDRAISING 2009 -
2010
The BASS Swim Team is a non-profit
organization managed by a Board of Directors comprised of parent
volunteers and the Head Coach. One of the most important jobs of
the board is to ensure that responsible financial decisions are
made, so that our children have a positive swimming
experience.
In order
to ensure that we meet our budget for the upcoming season and can
keep dues at a minimum, we are implementing a $150.00 per family
mandatory fundraising obligation.
The
Fundraising committee will provide a variety of fund-raising
options during the coming season. Families will have the
opportunity to choose which fundraisers best meet their interest
and needs. The Swim-a-Thon is the one fund-raiser where the
coaching staff would love to see all families participate. USA
Swimming reports that there are over 500 Swim-a-thons each year,
resulting in great financial gains, improved team spirit and
increased community awareness of the BASS
program.
All
fundraising efforts undertaken on behalf of BASS Swimming must be
pre-approved by the Board of Directors and overseen by the
Fundraising Committee. Once a family exceeds their fund
raising obligation of $150 for the season, some fundraisers
may allow for 50% of the excess to be applied as a credit towards
their account. No fundraising credits will be carried from season
to season.

VOLUNTEERING 2009
– 2010
The BASS Swim Team is a non-profit
(501c(3)) organization which relies on parents to help the team run
smoothly and remain successful. Every social event is
organized and run by parent volunteers. Our hugely successful
annual home swim meets are also organized and run by parent
volunteers.
BASS
swimming has an active volunteering program for all members of our
team. Each family is required to fulfill a preset number of
volunteer points (16) before the last 2010 short-course
championship meet. Volunteer requirements will be broken into
volunteer sub-groups and there will be requirements within
each. Examples of ways that these points will be earned include
bringing an item to sell at concessions at each home meet, working
at home meets, helping with team socials and fund raisers and
chairing or assisting committees. Basically, for every hour worked,
one point is earned and for every (approximately) $10 worth of
food/drink donated for a meet or social is one point is earned.
Tasks such as chairing or co-chairing a committee can earn multiple
points.
We encourage you to sign up at
registration to either assist on, co-chair or chair a committee.
Slots will always be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
BASS will maintain a running record of each family’s progress
and you will be able to see this information in your personal
account on the BASS web site. Families will be billed $10 for
each unearned point at the end of the season.
BASS believes in and strongly desires
active participation from all swim families. Because all
members of BASS have different situations, BASS offers families the
choice to “opt out” of the volunteering program. If
this choice is selected by a family and the associated fee
($150) is paid at registration, BASS will remove you from
the volunteer list for the remainder of the swim year. Although,
it will still be required that you cover a timing session at any
meet your child is entered in.
Timing
at swim meets, both home and away, is a mandatory part of
volunteering with any swim team. No swim meet can get started
without the volunteer parents on deck ready to time the swimmers.
ALL teams are required to provide timers at every meet their team
participates in (the number of timers required is based on the
number of entries from that particular team). It is therefore the
policy of BASS, that if your child is swimming in a meet, one
parent/family member will be responsible for a timing session
during the session your child is participating in. This is
a mandatory requirement that is separate from the volunteer
points requirement. The exception to this is new families who will
not be required to time in the first meet as well as those working
as officials at the meet – if a parent is working as an
official at a meet then they will not be responsible for covering a
timing session at that particular meet.
