Age Standard: 12 and Under

 Time Standard Requirement: 
  • Swim 25 yards (one length of pool); Backstroke and Freestyle without stopping.
 Training Time per Week:
  • 3-4 sessions/45-60 minutes each
Volume/Session:
  • 500-1600 yards
 Yearly Training:
  • 24-36 weeks
 Training Objectives:
  • Stroke Technique – all strokes (with main emphasis on Backstroke and Freestyle)
  • Racing skills, starts, turns, moderate pacing
  • Mild aerobic endurance
  • Sculling drills
  • Speed at 25-50 yards
  • Simple training sets and games
  • Flexibility
  • General body strength
  • Movement coordination
  • Group activities
Motor Learning Objectives:
  • Develop a feel for the water, the ability to make corrections in movement in movement patterns
  • Learn the basic technical skills of all four strokes
  • Develop general body coordination and strength
  • Learn to maintain correct technique on longer swims
  • Learn to maintain correct technique on short sprints
 Knowledge and Attitudes:
  • Enjoyment of pool practice
  • Learn to function as an individual within a group activity
  • Become familiar with rules and competitive situations
  • Learn about stroke technique and training methods
 Competition Objectives:
  • Have fun and learn to participate without anxiety or distraction
  • Personal improvement in both performance and skill
