About Our Training Groups
Little Nemos: Beginner Group
Practice: 3x30 min. each week
The goal for this group is to provide an easy transition from
Swim America to Yorktown Swim Club. Little Nemos
will work to refine the techniques they learned during Swim
America while continuing to develop their interest for
swimming. The work done in the Little Nemos
Group will make the move to the Moby Group a much smoother
one.
Mobys: Developmental
Practice: 4 x 60 min. each week
The goal for this group is to introduce competitive swimming
and to stimulate even more interest in swimming while further
developing basic skills. The program will be very positive and
encouraging, focusing on greater ease and comfort in the water, and
using good technique in swimming lengths of the
pool. Swimmers will work on the proper
techniques used for all four (4) competitive strokes
(freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly), including
starts and finishes (counting strokes on backstroke),
and proper breathing skills. As they progress, swimmers will
also learn turns and finishes. Swimmers will participate in fun
meets as well as competitive meets when the swimmer,
his/her coach, and his/her parents feel he/she
is ready.
Barracudas: Novice
Practice: 5 x 90 minutes each week
The goal for this group is to refine stroke techniques, learn
some advanced swimming skills, and improve endurance. The emphasis
is on learning while still having fun. While swimming is a
sport requiring effort, concentration, self-discipline, and
commitment, having fun remains the foundation. Swimmers will
develop goals and monitor their progress. They will participate in
both fun meets and more competitive meets according to their
interests.
Stingrays: Intermediate
Practice: 5 x 90-120 minutes each week
Swimmers in this group are becoming more competitive and learning
about the commitment necessary for success. The coaches demand
excellent technique in practice while gradually increasing the
level and amount of training as well as the level of competitive
awareness. Coaches will help motivate swimmers to strive
for their best, enjoy their teammates, and enjoy and learn from the
challenges they face.
Bonefish: Advanced
Practice: 9 x 90-150 minutes each week
This group is composed of senior, serious swimmers who agree to
rigorous attendance and training guidelines. Importance is placed
on training consistently at a high level. Abilities and aspirations
of this group are high - they are dedicated, committed, and
ambitious performers. The challenges are great yet the rewards are
priceless.
