Go For The Gold

Go For The Gold is a motivational program for all SwimTulsa Blue Team and White Team swimmers. SwimTulsa has designed intrasquad meets to provide an introduction to competitive swimming for our newest swimmers and valuable race experience for our competitors. A swimmer who participates in GFTG meets can earn practice caps and stars, participation ribbons, and gain experience necessary to race in USA Swimming meets. Read on to answer the following questions and learn how to get the most from this program!

What color is your Practice Cap?

Go For The Gold (GFTG) is an ageless motivational program endorsed by USA Swimming. It is a set of race goals (time standards) that are not age dependant. SwimTulsa has designed intrasquad meets to provide an introduction to competitive swimming for our newest swimmers and valuable race experience for our seasoned competitors. At these meets, swimmers race to get best times and earn Go For The Gold caps (the colored caps that you see each of the Blue Team swimmers wear at practice). Once earned, these caps should be worn at all practices and Go For The Gold meets (SwimTulsa team caps should be worn at USA Swim meets).

Look at the Go For The Gold times to learn what the caps colors and stars mean and to track how close you are to earning a new practice cap or even a new star.  All GFTG meets are held at the Union pool which is a 25 meter course.

These meets are friendly to our new competitors. A participation ribbon will be given  to each swimmer who competes in a GFTG meet and all swimmers are encouraged to take the SwimTulsa Trophy Challenge (below).

Are you ready to race?   Yes, you are!

All White Team and Blue Team swimmers are prepared to swim these events. SA station 6 & 7 swimmers will race 25’s (count lengths of the pool like quarters: 1=25, 2=50, 4=100) of each stroke, based on readiness. White Team will race 50’s of each stroke based on readiness. ST Blue Team swimmers will race various events chosen by thier coach. Meets are held at the end of each 9 week SA session on a regular practice evening; warm up begins at 6:00pm and the meets finish before 8:00pm.
