For swimmers 10 years and younger with little or no competitive
experience. The swimmer must be able to swim in deep water without
the aid of an instructor and should be legal in two of the
competitive strokes. The swimmer must be able to listen and
learn in a group environment. The group focus is to learn all
four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and
butterfly along with the appropriate turns and starts.

Piranhas
For swimmers 10 years old and younger who can swim the four
competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and
butterfly. Must be able to swim a 100 freestyle without
stopping. The swimmer must be able to listen and learn in a
group environment. This group will continue to work on
strokes, starts and turns as well as some endurance swimming.

Sharks
For swimmers 10 years old and younger. Swimmers must have
knowledge of the four competitive strokes as well as appropriate
turns and starts. Must be able to swim 10x50 freestyle @ 1:30 (with
flip turns). Also must be able to swim 6 x 100y IM’s @
3:00. Swimmers should attend meets as appropriate and exhibit
good practice attendance.

For swimmers 9 years old and older. Swimmers must be able to swim

Swimmers are expected to attend 70% of practices.
Additionally, each swimmer should be able to count and compute
distances, and swim continuously for 10 minutes. Swimmers
should execute appropriate and legal turns, and they should exhibit
good sportsmanship.

For swimmers 11 years old and older. Swimmers must
be able to complete

9 x 100y fly @ 1:55
16 x 100y back @ 1:45
16 x 100y breast @ 2:00
8 x 100y kick @ 2:05
8 x 200y IM @ 3:30.
The swimmer should have competed in all events offered in his or
her age group and achieved the following SCY times: 100 free
– 1:10, 100 back – 1:25, 100 breast – 1:35, 10
fly – 1:25, 200 IM – 2:55, and be able to complete a
T30 swim at threshold showing improvement. Swimmers are
expected to attend 80% practices. Additionally, swimmers should
have an understanding of goal setting, be able to accept
constructive criticism from their coach, follow good nutritional
habits, understand heart rate as a measure of intensity, know and
respect competitors and teammates, exhibit a high level of
sportsmanship, understand and use positive self-talk, attend
recommended meets, and be punctual to warm ups.

Senior Purple
Boulder Swimming’s Pre-Senior Group is USA
Swimming Level 4. It is offered to swimmers 13 and older who
want to transition into Senior Swimming. Practices are
offered approximately 7 x per week. Many times the pre-senior
group is merged with the Senior team. In this situation,
intervals and sets may be made more appropriate to the swimmers
level. Swimmers must qualify by performing 3 of 5 challenge
sets. Goal meets for the pre-senior include local competition,
State, Zone and even Sectional Championships.

Senior Green
Boulder Swimming’s Senior Group has
qualification standards for age, ability, and attendance.
Swimmers in this group must achieve minimum qualifying times and be
able to handle 2+ hour practices at faster paces.
Corresponding with USA Swimming’s Levels of Progression this
group is a true Level 5 group. Swimmers must have competed in every
swimming event. Swimmer’s must be proficient in 400
IM. Swimmers must make 4 of 6 "challenge sets" to be in this
group. The normal practice schedule includes double practices
on 3 or 4 days of each week. Group activities outside the
pool for team-building occur about once per month. Focus
meets for this group are State, HS State, Sectionals, Zone and
Junior National Championships.
