Welcome!
Who
is the "go to" person regarding USA-S
Registrations?
Marian Jelf is the registration person.
Her position is up for election again in October 2008
at the annual LSC meeting and the new term for this
office will be for January 2009 - December 2010.
If I have a swimmer join the team today, and
we send in the USAS registration to you:
1 - Do we pro-rate the registration since it’s late in the
year cycle?
The
registration would NOT be prorated. USA Swimming does not prorate
membership fees. If the registration were sent today,
7/25/07, itwould end 12/31/07, BUT
if you wait until September 1, 2007 or later to send the
registration application (completed of course) and the
appropriate fee the US swimming registration would be for 9/1/07 -
12/31/08. Basically those registering on/about 9/1/07 will
get 4 months use of the membership for "free" if they are a
first time US Swimming member.
2 - If not, would their registration be
current for 1 year from date of registration, or would it expire in
December?
As stated above, if
the registration is processed on/after 9/1/07 it would expire
12/31/08. If processed before 9/1/07 it would expire
12/31/07.
3 - Would they be issued a 2008
registration, and if so, would they be able to swim in the Lubbock
Pentathlon on Sept 23rd?
If the registration form is ACCURATELY completed in
its entirety and if the registration is accompanied by the correct
registration fee ($53.00) AND received by Marian 4-7
WORKING days before September 23 the swimmers will be
able to swim in the meet in Lubbock. Within the last 6 weeks,
coaches and teams have sent applications 1-3 days before a
meet is to start. This is NOT sufficient time to process the
applications at times (e.g., if the applications are delivered
after lunch on a Wednesday to COM. Marian may be off on
Thursday. She isn’t able to start on the applications
until Friday at the earliest. If the meets starts Friday
evening the swimmers can’t swim in this scenario .
What Marian is doing is strictly voluntary and COM Aquatics is
absorbing all of the cost associated with Marian’s time,
providing the computer, etc for her to complete the application
process. The troubling part of the recent applications was
that they were completed up to 2 months BEFORE the meet and the
checks from the parents of the swimmers were dated up to 2 months
BEFORE the meet yet the coaches/teams didn’t send the
applications and fees to Marian to process until the day before the
meet started - this isn’t acceptable and no team/coach
can expect the applications to be processed in less than a day when
the coaches/teams have been sitting on the completed applications
for 2 months.
4 - When can we start registering swimmers for 2008?
(if #3 is "no")
Again, on/after September 1, 2007 and the
registration will be valid until December 31,
2008.
5 - What is the turn around time for registrations
to ensure they are current and can swim in
meets?
At least 4-7 working days. I would suggest a
phone call to Marian to ensure she received the applications if
they are being sent this close to a start of a meet.
If you have any
questions regarding registration for USA-Swimming Membership,
please contact Marian Jelf at the City of Midland’s Mabee
