Practice Expectations
It is very important that all swimmers:
Arrive at the pool and be ready to be in the water at your
scheduled practice time.
Do the complete warm-up.
Do all finishes correctly (i.e. 2 hand touches in breaststroke and
butterfly).
Stay in the water unless told otherwise.
Listen to the coaches instruction.
If you don’t understand the instructions, ask the coach to
clarify.
Any child being disruptive during practice will be asked to leave.
Remember, a good focus in practice leads to a good stroke, which in
turn means a good time in meets.
Expectations: All swimmers must attend a least two
practices in the week prior to the meet to be able to swim. This is
not in effect if you are on vacation. Please let the coaches know
if you will be on vacation.
Swim Meet Arrival Times
Swimmers from both teams have a warm-up period before the meet
begins, therefore, swimmers need to be at the pool (home or away)
by the following times:
Wednesday Meets
(For a prompt 6:00 p.m. start time):
Home Meets – 4:45 p.m. arrival
time
Away Meets – 5:15 p.m. arrival time
Saturday Meets
(For a prompt 9:00 a.m. start time):
Home Meets – 7:45 a.m. arrival
time
Away Meets – 8:15 a.m. arrival time
Swim Meet Sign-Out Book
A “Meet Sign-Out Book” is located near the front
entrance of the pool. If you will not be able to make a swim meet
it is very important that you notify the coaches by signing out at
least three days in advance of the meet (four weeks in advance of
the City and Conference meets). If you are sick and unlikely to
swim in the upcoming meet, please arrange for a friend to inform
the coaches as soon as possible. Failure to do so is terribly
disruptive to the coaches, who are in charge of planning swimmer
events and relay teams, as well as computer personnel in charge of
seeding the meet and preparing the computer entries. Unplanned
“no-shows” can result in meet delays, so please
sign-out well in advance. Thank you.
General Do’s and Don’ts
Respect the rights of others, including personal property.
Treat team equipment as if it were your own (kickboards, pull
buoys, balls, etc.).
Keep track of your own things. Don’t expect others to do it
for you.
Put your name on goggles and clothing (team suits, shirts, sweats,
towels, etc.).
If you have the flu or a fever, please stay out of the water until
you have been well for 48 hours.
Important: If you will not be at a meet, let the coaches
know and sign “The Sign-Out Book” at least 3 days
before a meet and four weeks before the City and Conference Meets.
If you are sick and unlikely to swim in the upcoming meet, please
arrange for a friend to inform the Coaches as soon as possible.
Check the swim team family folders and e-mail daily for
information.
Keep warm. A warm-up can be wasted by standing around in bare feet
or sandals on the cold cement pool deck.
Remember your suit. And if you wear a cap, bring an extra one, just
in case.
At meets, keep the team area clean.
Be aware of your events. Parents of 6 & unders and 7/8’s,
it is your responsibility to check your children in with
Springbrook Shepherds once you hear the announcer call for the
11/12’s of the previous race.
Never rush before your event. Leave enough time to take off sweats,
etc. and to mentally plan for the event.
After you swim your event, think it over in your mind. If you
honestly tried to improve, then it was a worth-while effort.
Give your name and age to the recorder. 6 & unders and
7/8’s, after you swim; 9 & up, before you swim.
After each event, ask the recorder for your time. Then, talk with
the coaches regarding your swim.
Always tell a coach if you are leaving the meet early. It
would be nice if everyone could stay until the end to show team
Ssirit. If this is not possible, please speak with the coaches
before leaving because they may need you for a relay.
Always show respect to other swimmers and meet officials. Sfter
each race, shake the swimmer’s hand in the lanes next to you.
If you have any problems, tell a coach.
Absolutely NO “RAIDS” on another Conference swim club.
Any swimmer participating in raids will be disqualified from the
Conference Championship Meet. There will be NO exceptions.
Remember, whether you are 4 or 18, you are a Springbrook Team
member first. Be proud of the Team, cheer for your teammates, and
swim hard for yourself and the Team. Champions let their swimming
speak for itself. Don’t brag or show off at meets.
