Pools At Risk

If you would like to make an annoucement or post information about the pool your team or community uses which is at risk of closing please submitt the information to the PNS Office in a pdf format if possible or as word document. We will then post the submissions as links with the heading being the name of the pool that is at risk.

10/20/2009:  Two pools used by PNS teams are at risk of closing or are closed.  Evergreen Pool and Mt. Rainier Pool. The Evergreen pool was mothballed on September 1. Whitewater Aquatics (WWA) who use Evergreen Pool is working with the county to take over management and they hope to open the beginning of 2010. WWA is currently working on fundraising which is the biggest issue as the county would like them to have 100,000 in reserve before they take over the pool.   Questions or comments should go to WWA head coach Joel Schweiger

King Aquatic Club (KING) uses Mt. Rainier Pool. Please view the links below for information on the issues surrounding Mt. Rainier Pool.

Project Seattle Pools

05/06/2009:  Neighborhood Matching Fund Applications Submitted In April, groups of pool supporters in both NE and SE Seattle submitted applications for neighborhood matching fund (NMF) grants. These grants would make it possible to begin the planning process necessary for adding and/or upgrading Seattle’s public pool facilities. Thanks go to the many pool supporters who helped with our NMF application by pledging hours of volunteer time as matching contributions. The grants are now under consideration by the City.It is important to do planning like this even in lean economic times because public planning is a slow process. Doing long-term planning now ensure we have well-thought-out and broadly supported plans at hand when better economic times return. City Council Resolution R31073 recommends that the next Park capital levy address unmet swimming needs, so ready-to-go plans will be needed when that levy is composed.
Friends of Pools in SE Seattle will hire a professional urban planner to work with Seattle Parks and the community to make site recommendations for a new outdoor pool in southeast Seattle, to assess the service capacity of existing indoor facilities serving residents in the southeast, and to suggest long-term financing options.
Friends of Pools in NE Seattle will hire a professional urban planner to work with Seattle Parks and the community to make site recommendations for a new outdoor pool in northeast Seattle, to recommend enhancements to existing indoor facilities serving residents in the northeast, and to suggest long-term financing options.

Highline Swim Programs in Danger!!
04/23/2009:The highline school district is proposing to cut all swim teams for the upcoming 2009 / 2010 seasons.  These cuts will eliminate the men’s and women’s programs at the Mt. Rainier, Evergreen and Highline High Schools.  This not only eliminates programs that are vital part of our community, but also sets a dangerous precedent for other local aquatic programs.  You may show your support by attending one of the following:
