Kids!  We want you to join our team!  And getting started at VSC is easy!
If you can swim one length of the pool using proper freestyle and backstroke, you’re in as a Novice 1!  If you need to polish up your technique, you may be a candidate for the Basic Four/Technique Group!  Are you more experienced?  There are levels clear up to Senior, and one of them is perfect for you.
A coach will watch you swim then decide which group is right for you, according to your own abilities right now. You can move up and compete at your own pace.  That’s all there is to it!

Who is Vancouver Swim Club?
Thank you for your interest in Vancouver Swim Club (VSC), an affiliate of Oregon Swimming Inc and USA Swimming Inc. VSC is a year-round, non-profit, parent supported swim team that promotes competitive swimming for athletes ages 5-18+. Our coaches are among the most qualified in this area and our 42 year legacy reflects our commitment to swimming as a lifetime sport.

At VSC, the shared goal of each swimmer is to improve their own ‘personal best’ times, thus building self-respect while developing good sportsmanship. Winning comes naturally, as a result of pursuing that goal.

Please take your time and browse through the information here. The links above will answer a lot of your questions. For more information or to leave a message for the Membership Chair, call (360) 944-1VSC (1872).

Tryouts are held so the coach can help you find the best group for you to practice with. "Tryouts" might sound scary, but you are really "trying on" the team to find the best fit.  So relax and do your best.  Just be sure you bring your goggles and are on the pool deck ready to swim at your appointed time.

Tryouts:
Joining VSC is a simple process:
First, call me, Angie Shannon, at
(360) 571-7264 to schedule your placement evaluation.
Second, print the registration forms and fill them out ahead of time.
Third, bring your swimmer to the tryouts, ready to swim.

The VSC Welcome Letter, VSC Registration Agreement, and VSC Dues Schedule (see the FORMS tab at the top of this page), should be filled out ahead of time but if you have trouble printing them, please let us know, and we will bring them to the tryouts.

To determine which group is the best fit for your swimmer, he or she will be asked to participate in a placement evaluation. Group placement evaluations are held the first Monday and second Wednesday of each month at Marshall Center Pool at 4:00 pm.

For insurance purposes, a parent/guardian must complete a Registration Agreement and pay the registration fee prior to the swimmer entering the water. This registration and fee will be returned if your swimmer decides not to join VSC. One of our certified coaches will evaluate your swimmer and place them in the appropriate group for their current swimming abilities. Should your swimmer decide to join VSC, we will also collect the first months’ dues upon starting. Dues start at just $44 per month for the Novice 1 group, and vary by group depending on actual pool and coaching time.

What Happens Then?
