Marlins Practice Groups:
|
Junior Marlins
|
This practice is designed for swimmers 5 and older. Swimmers must
be able to comfortably swim 25 yards. This is a great introduction
to swim team where our young swimmers learn a more efficient stroke
while working in group. This group has only 2 practices per week
(Wednesday and Friday) from 9/11/09 to 10/30/09 and 4/21/10 to
6/11/10. Competition is optional only at home meets.

Group
1
|
This practice is designed for swimmers 6 and older. Swimmers must
be able to comfortably swim 50 yards and kick 100 yards. This is a
great transition from swimming lessons to swim team where young
swimmers focus on swimming skills and the basics of swimming
etiquette while having fun. Although competition is an option for
everyone on the team, we believe in a gradual approach to this
skill and therefore work with each individual to decide when they
are ready. To get the most out of your child’s involvement
with the team, we recommend a minimum of 2 practices per
week.

|
Group
2
|
This practice is designed to offer technique work on the four
competitive strokes, starts and turns. The emphasis is placed on
learning all strokes and working together as a team. While
continuing to perfect stroke techniques, the stronger swimmers
learn basic training techniques like monitoring heart rates, stroke
counts, and learn about pace clocks and intervals. Competition for
this group is recommended, particularly when we offer home meets.
To get the most out of your child’s involvement with the
team, we recommend a minimum of 3 practices per week.
|
|
Group
3
|
Emphasis is placed on technique with progressively longer yardage.
Swimmers learn to handle more challenging sets and learn about
swimming theory. During meets we encourage our athletes to discover
new events that were previously beyond their ability. Competition
for this group is mandatory. To get the most out of your
child’s involvement with the team, we recommend a minimum of
3 practices per week.
|
|
Group
4
|
Emphasis is placed on training the body and the mind. Swimmers are
expected to show a strong commitment to improve their performance.
Competition for this group is mandatory. To get the most out of
your child’s involvement with the team, we recommend a
minimum of 4 practices per week.

|
Our ability to teach / coach your kids is directly affected by the
level of homogeneity within each practice lane. Swimmers are
grouped by ability in order to help each lane’s efficiency.
By not attending the recommended number of practices, the swimmers
may compromise this efficiency and be required to move to another
lane or even to a different practice all together.
