The
Davis Aquadarts provide an opportunity for each of
our swimmers to experience successful improvement by the careful
structuring of our training program. Our coaching staff has
established a plan designed for our athlete’s career
development. We must emphasize to all our members that the basis of
our strategy is producing long-term participation in our sport. The
method we will use is called the Progressions for Aquadart
Development. The plan provides a structured avenue that each
swimmer travels leading to their development as a whole person;
physically, emotionally, mentally and socially. It also enables and
motivates each swimmer through successive levels advancing to final
enjoyment and fulfillment. The groups will be recognized as
follows:
BLUE:
These are the youngest of the
Aquadarts. They begin at a level with a minimum commitment that
provides flexibility to participate in other areas. The emphasis is
on teaching the FUNdamentals by means of drills and games that make
swimming fun. 3rd grade and younger.
BRONZE:
New swimmers to the team, 4th grade
through 6th grade, begin with this group. Basic stroke and skills
instruction are still the main emphasis, with pace clock and
training knowledge introduced. Blue swimmers progress into this
group for a minimum of one training quarter.
SILVER:
Practices last longer for Silver team swimmers. This group is for
swimmers that perform well in any three of the competitive strokes,
are ready to learn more advanced stroke techniques and interval
training, and participate regularly in swim meets. New members to
this group move up from the Bronze group or are transfer swimmers
from other USS clubs.
GOLD:
Our most advanced instructional
level where swimmers develop a training background for senior level
swimming. Careful attention is still given to technique, but an
equal emphasis is placed on learning how to train. Stretching and
dry land exercises are introduced, as well as routine mental and
physical challenges. Regular attendance is necessary, as is
participation in meets.
VARSITY:
The Varsity group serves two purposes. First, it is designed to
help the older swimmer, new to the sport, get up to speed and move
into the Gold or Senior group. Second, it provides an opportunity
for the long-time swimmer, with multi-interests in other
activities, to remain in a structured swimming environment.
SENIOR:
The Senior Team is for the
serious, competitive, older swimmer. Members of this group have
selected swimming as their primary activity for at least three
training quarters of the year. Members of this group have the
ability to do double workouts during the school year, and the
attendance to handle peak training loads. Within this group is the
NATIONAL TEAM. These
swimmers have achieved National Level Time Standards, are able to
attend travel meets and are in contention for college
scholarships.
