How to Use the "Fast Times" web page

Lyle Campbell, Program Development Vice Chair

Pacific Northwest Swimming provides its members a look at many aspects of results of local competitions on the “FAST TIMES” page of the Pacific Northwest Swimming Website. The following is a description of the information provided.

RESULTS:
Each of the sanctioned, approved, and observed meets have results posted in different formats for the membership. The “PDF” files shows the results in publication order (i.e. all eight and under events, 9-10, 11-12, etc) with all girls events first and then the boys events. The results also show splits for each athlete for events over 100 yards in length when available.

Results are also posted with “CL” file. This file is zipped and may be downloaded. The “CL” file is what teams use to enter the times with splits into the TEAM MANAGER program.

Finally, Results are posted with a “MDB” file. This file is also zipped and downloadable; the “MDB” file is the backup of the meet file and is used with the MEET MANAGER program.

The “SCORE” uses the Hy-Tek Point system which scores each of the individual swims with a point value. The average points for each individual swim range from 1-1000 points. For the challenge meets, the traditional age groups are used: 10 and under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18. Senior competitions use an “OPEN” point system.

PNS also shows the number of swimmers, relays and individual events in each of the meet as well as the host for each of the competitions.

CHALLENGE MEETS:
Analysis: For each of the Challenge meets, an analysis is presented. This PDF file shows a graph of each of the meets for that month with the number of swimmers and number of swims. Also, the length of time for each of the four sessions is presented as well as the average competition time for each session. The PNS goal is to have each of the session length to be four hours or less for 12 and under competitions. However, when the 12 year olds compete with the 13 and over swimmers, it is possible the length with be longer due to the number of 13 and over swimmers competing in the distance events (500 free and 400 i.m.). The 12 and under are through prior to the start of these 13 and over events and is the reason why the 11-12 and 13 and over events are separated.

The next part of the analysis shows the number of swims from the previous year that was used in determining the teams participating in each of the division. The number of swims from this year is compared to last year and shows the growth of competition numbers.

The final part of the analysis shows the number of entries in each of the events for each of the divisions as well as the total of all divisions. All of the information helps in the continual development of the “Challenge Series.”

Individual: These files show the top performance in each age group and gender of each of the divisions. The determination of top performance is based on the Hy-Tek points system for each of the events. The yellow highlighted performance is the top performance for all divisions in that age group and gender.

Score: The score is based on the individual performances and Hytek point system. Each team is allowed its top four individual performances in each event. The points are scored and totalled. Each month meets are totalled and posted at the top of the page under “Challenge Series Total”. There are three divisions based on the number of registered swimmers as of March 31 of the current season. The divisions are 151 and above, 91-150, and 90 and under registered swimmers.

NATIONAL RANKINGS:
At the top of the page, under “National Rankings”, we posted those individual swimmers who rank in the top 100 of reported times in each of the traditional age groups: 10 and under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, and Senior. These times are obtained through the USA Swimming SWIMS database. An update is done on a monthly basis. Individuals who place in the top 16 in the USA at the end of each season is awarded a certificate from USA Swimming indicating the accomplishment.

IMXTREME RANKINGS:
The “IMxtreme Rankings” shows those individuals who have competed in the age appropriate events to have an IMXTREME point total.

  • 10 and under swimmers: 200 i.m., 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly
  • 11 and 12 year old swimmers: 200 i.m., 400/500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly

The short course yard season goes from September 1 through May 31 each year. The long course season goes from September 1 through August 31 each year. Rankings are shown for national, western zone, PNS and club. Individuals who rank in the top 100 in the nation at the end of each season receive a cap at the PNS annual awards banquet.

INDIVIDUAL/RELAY TIMES:
A report for each individual event in single year increments is posted. The report shows all times posted in the SWIMS database. The report includes the individual time, Hy-tek Points, and the meet and date where the time was achieved.Relays show the relay performances in each of the age groups: 10 and under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, and 15-18.

TOYOTA VIRTUAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS:
USA Swimming has a program to compare clubs nationally based on relative strength of individuals. Each team individual times for 11-18 year old swimmers are analyzed in single year increments. 11 and 12 year old events include 50-10-200-500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200 i.m. 13 thru 18 year olds use each of the Olympic events. Each team is scored on the top two individuals. Each individual is scored in only four events. The scoring uses the Hy-Tek single year point system.

It is our hope this gives a explanation of each of the files which are available to our membership. If you have any questions, please contact the PNS office, and we will get back to you. We hope that you enjoy the data provided.
