Buenaventura Swim Club
National Group – Head Coach Jason
York
Criteria:
The National Group is the pinnacle of training
group within the Buenaventura Swim Club structure. It is
designed to be a “center of excellence”. The
National Group will provide a challenging atmosphere and swimmers
will be encouraged to reach their full potential. Every
effort will be made to give these athletes the attention,
education, and tools they need to succeed. The dedication,
commitment, and work necessary to succeed in this group will be
immense and require the support of their parents.
Practice Schedule:
M-F 3:30-5:45pm (Swimming)
T/Th 3:30-4:15pm (Dryland)
M,W,F mornings
5:30-7:00am
(Swimming)
Saturday mornings 6:30-9:00am (Swimming)
Saturday mornings 9:00-10:00am (Dryland)
Attendance required is 90%
for any given month. Dry land workouts are a very important
component of our program and count as part of the workout in
regards to attendance. Any missed portion of a workout will result
in a 50% attendance for the workout. Absences that do not count
against the 90% rule are at coaches discretion.
Semiannual
swimmer/coach one on one meeting
- detailing seasonal agenda
with goals and plan
- required to attend all
meets in plan
- develop 4 year agenda with
assistance of coach
Ability
to:
- swim 20X100 Freestyle @ 1:10
- swim 16X100 I.M. @ 1:30
- kick 20X50 @ :50
To be
eligible for move up into National Group, swimmer must exhibit a
history of fulfilling all National Group criteria, including
attendance requirement, for at least one month prior to move
up. If a swimmer shows history of not fulfilling National
Group criteria more than twice in one season, they must wait 1 year
before given the opportunity to swim with the National Group
again.
Swimmer must take a holistic approach to life
and act in a manner conducive to creating good health consistent
with that of a national level swimmer.
Always act in a positive manner with teammates
and help foster the “winning culture” necessary to be
elite level athletes.
Be goal oriented and understand the race
strategies necessary to reach those goals.
Be able to maintain good grades and balance
school.
Have the goal of qualifying for Junior and
Senior Nationals. Be willing to compete in the highest level
meet possible/qualified for. (ex. If you achieve a Junior Nationals
Time Standard, you should attend Junior Nationals)
Attend all meets recommended by coach.
Must compete in Buenaventura team suit and team cap (if swimmer
wears a cap). Must adhere to code of conduct during all
travel trips.
Learn to let go of fear and reach ones
potential.
Most importantly, National Group inclusion is
based more on attitude and desire than any other single
factor and will be at coach’s discretion.
Senior Group – Senior Group Coach Betsy
Harrison
Criteria:
The Senior
Group is designed to be a transitional group from Gold Age Group to
National Group. There is no attendance requirement assigned
to this group, however, the training group will be implemented in a
way that every individual will have the opportunity to succeed to
the best of his/her potential. We will encourage swimmers to
prepare for the National Group, but will also accommodate those
with goals other than swimming as their top priority.
Practice
Schedule :
M-F 3:30-5:15pm (Swimming)
T/TH 3:30-4:00pm (Dryland)
M,W,F
5:30-7:00am

“winning culture” necessary to be elite level

The swimmer is expected to:
accept the responsibility of his/her
performance
understand and perform specific race
strategies
effectively communicate his/her commitment to
his/her parents and coach
balance school, family, swimming, and social
commitments
take responsibility for their own swimming
careers.
Gold
Age Group – Coach Lee Anne Ghimenti
Criteria:
Gold Age
Group is the pinnacle of age group swimming within our structure at
Buenaventura Swim Club. While there is no attendance
requirement, swimmers are encouraged to attend all practice
sessions, especially as they approach age 11 & 12 because this
is the last group in the transition into senior level
swimming. Your swimmer will have a much better senior level
swimming experience, and a better chance of continuing on in the
sport if they are prepared. Since we are an ability based
program, following is the criteria for Gold Age Group.

to descend these sets.
Swimmers
should be able to push off streamlined and hold streamline for 4
dolphin kicks.
Swimmers
should be able to listen and understand coach instructions between
each set.
Swimmers

session and throughout a swim meet.
The swimmers
in this group should be highly motivated to continually improve
their technique, learn race strategies and learn how to swim a
descending and best average set.
Swimmer will
understand how to read a pace clock and understand the primary
focus of each set.
Pulling
equipment will be introduced and used as appropriate.
Swimmers
should have a goal of achieving a Junior Olympic time standard, but
there should still be an emphasis on maintaining a fun
atmosphere.
Silver Age Group – Coach Marty
Armstrong
Criteria:

of the Silver Age Group is to prepare our young swimmers for
