Q. I MIGHT MAKE JUNIOR NATIONALS THIS SUMMER. HOW WILL THIS AFFECT ME?
A. Most years you could do both meets, but this year Junior Nationals conflicts with Zones. If you choose to swim Zones over Juniors, please be advised of the following limitations: Athletes who have three junior national times prior to June 20 are disqualified from competing at this meet. Athletes with two or fewer Long Course Junior National times at the time they are selected MAY swim at this meet and swim a full slate of events. If a selected athlete achieves an additional Junior National time after team selection, that athlete IS still eligible. Swimmers who have achieved cuts for USA Swimming National Championships or Olympic Trials are ineligible for consideration for this meet.
Q. HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN Zones AND JUNIORS?
A. Speak with your coach well in advance, set your goals NOW, and make a decision. If you are shooting for ONE season ending meet and that meet is Juniors, please do not apply for Zones. If you apply, you are committing to attend if you are selected.
Q. WHEN WILL MY SWIMMER BE NOTIFIED IF HE/SHE IS SELECTED?
A. The coaches will convene Monday, July 1, to begin scoring the athletes. The selections will be posted as a news item on the application website, one age group/gender at a time over the course of that week. Additional names may be added after that. Athletes will be notified via email once each group is finalized. The entire process will be complete no later than July 5, 2019. The Zone Team will be selected by July 8th.
Q. WHAT IS MY FINANCIAL OBLIGATION, HOW IS THAT DETERMINED, AND WHAT DOES THAT COVER?
A. Zone athletes must provide their own travel, lodging and meals. SCS will provide a coach, team manager, and caps. There is a TBD co-pay for apparel, team photo, entry fees, and end of the meet social event.
