San Jose Aquatics has helped develop thousands of swimmers
during its three decades of distinguished history.
Since 1976, SJA has been based at the Gunderson High School
aquatics facility, which features both an Olympic sized (50 meter
by 25 yard) pool and a 25 yard warmup pool (also used for water
polo training and games).
San Jose Aquatics has six
workout groups that meet
Monday-Friday and (for some groups) on Saturday mornings.
(The team normally is closed for August.) Each month, swimmers
participate in
weekend swim meets at SJA and other local clubs. Swimmers with
qualifying times participate in Pacific Swimming regional meets, or
even national meets sponsored by USA Swimming.
New members are wecome to join at any time during the year.
Where appropriate, swimmers will be offered the opportunity to move
up to the next group at the beginning of the season or other times
of the year.
SJA has three coaches
who run the daily meets and guide the development of the individual
swimmers.
San Jose Aquatics is a non-profit organization governed by a
dedicated board of directors, which is responsible for hiring
coaches and making financial and other policy decisions.
Finally, parent volunteers play an essential role in running the
team and help foster a sense of community. Examples of volunteer
assignments include assisting with swim meets hosted by SJA, timing
races, ,running social events, and team publicity. Families are
expected to volunteer a minimum number of hours every season.
Volunteer opportunities are varied and can be tailored to meet the
needs and strengths of family members.
