Where Buffalo Learns to Swim!
The below videos were filmed at Michael Phelps Swim School in Baltimore, MD. and show one class at a time for demonstration purposes. In Buffalo, NY there will be multiple classes going on at the same time in an effort to accommodate the demand as well as to allow families with multiple children at different class levels to conveniently participate in their lessons during the same time slot.

Get Wet

6mo - 4 years |
Get Wet is a parent and child class for children three years of age and younger (exceptions are made for older children). While focusing on water comfort, games, and relaxing in a warm water environment, parents are encouraged to challenge each child's skills and level of comfort in the water. Continually under the guidance of a competent instructor, the emphasis in Get Wet is on fun in the water! There are a maximum of 12 students per class within a Get Wet Class. |

Pre-Beginner

Pre-Beginner is our first class without parental involvement. Children must have reached the age of three to enroll in this level. The emphasis in Pre-Beginner is on basic water skills such as assisted and unassisted floating, kicking, blowing bubbles and retrieving items from the bottom of a shallow (3 foot) area. Listening to instructions and working within a group are stressed along with important water safety lessons.
Pre-Beginner includes games and activities that build confidence while increasing the child’s comfort and feel for the water. Finally, children will become comfortable swimming under the water. There are a maximum of 3 students/class at the Pre-Beginner Level.

Beginner
|
4+ years |
In Beginner, children are comfortable in AND under the water, able to completely submerge, can float on their front and back unassisted, and propel themselves the width of the pool by kicking on both their stomach + back unaided. PLEASE do not register in Beginner if your child does not have those skills.
The emphasis in Beginner is on development of confidence and feel for the water. Children remain in the Beginner level until they are swimming freestyle and demonstrating rotary breathing as well as Bacstroke. It is anticipated that children will remain in this level for multiple sessions, as the skills to be mastered are quite broad and varied. There are a maximum of 4 students/class at the Beginner Level.

Advanced Beginner

In Advanced Beginner, freestyle & backstroke skills are honed and other competitive strokes are introduced and taught. The emphasis in Advanced Beginner is on confidence with freestyle and building comfort with other strokes. Children should be able to demonstrate rotary breathing, have mastered the air exchange process.
A child MUST be able to comfortably swim widths of the pool Freestyle & Backstroke unaided to register in Advanced Beginner. There are a maximum of 5 students/class at the Advanced Beginner Level.

Intermediate |
6+ years |
The Intermediate is the highest level of group instruction. Intermediate swimmers can swim for a length of the pool unaided. Additionally, these swimmers demonstrate comfortable rotary breathing with freestyle, a competent backstroke, and a feel for the water. The fundamentals of breaststroke and butterfly are reinforced. These children will work to improve their skills so they can swim several laps of each stroke with confidence. There is a maximum of 6 students/class at the Intermediate Level.
In addition to the Intermediate level, a Recreational Team for more advanced swimmers is available!

Private (1 on 1) and Semi-Private (max 2 students) Instruction is available as well. These classes are catered specifically to the individual needs of the participants.
