Group Descriptions - As Of 4/13/09


TRAINING GROUPS

The Clippers Swimming offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Clippers Swimming to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Our training groups are based upon a building block progression. Just like in school, the swimmers learn different abilities as they progress through the program.
Age Group Development 1 (AGD1)
This is the beginning group in the Clippers program. It is for swimmers ages 6 thru 9 who are already legal in the 4 competitive strokes. This group will concentrate on further developing technique. They will also work on introduction to competitive starts and turns. Also key to this group are having fun and learning to love the sport. DST has no practice requirements.
Age Group Development 2 (AGD2)
For experienced swimmers ages 8 through 10 years old throughout the swim season. This group will build on the fundamentals they learned in DST while focusing more on the competitive nature of swimming. Examples of things learned in this group but not limited to are: Understanding practice set, swimming terminology and reading a pace clock. This group has no practice requirements.
Age Group Development 3 (AGD3)
For advanced swimmers 9-10 years old throughout the swim season. In this group swimmers practice time will increase but are still encouraged to participate in other activities. Examples of things learned in this group but not limited to are: increasing aerobic training, more complex practice sets and reading harder cycles on the pace clock. This group has no practice requirements.
Age Group Development 4 (AGD4)
For swimmers 11-14years old throughout the swim season. In this group swimmers practice time will be increased and introduced to dryland training. This group will focus on technique and development of training practices. Swimmers are still encouraged to participate in other activities. This group has no practice requirements.

Age Performance 1 (AP1)
For advanced swimmers 11-13years old. This group will offer a higher level of training for the more advanced training swimmers. This group will focus on adding a higher level of aerobic training and dryland training. Swimmers are still encouraged to participate in other activities.This group has no practice requirements, however a minimum of 3-4 practices a week is recommended in order to reach desired goals. If swimmers are interested in swimming in this group they need to contact the Head Age Group Coach to determine what it takes to swim in the group.


Age Performance (AP2)
An invitation group which is designed for swimmers
(13-14) who have demonstrated the ability to swim at an advanced level at meets and practice. Swimmers have decided to be more dedicated to the sport and show desire to compete at the national level. This group does have practice minimums. If swimmers are interested in swimming in this group they need to contact the Head Age Group Coach to determine what it takes to swim in the group.

Prep
For swimmers
14 & older who are still in the developing(prep) stages of the sport. Swimmers in this group are expected to put forth a strong effort and the main focus for these swimmers will be more local and regional meets including High School Swimming. Though it is not for all expectations to continue will be expected for some of the members in this group. This group does not have practice requirements.

National Performance

Swimmers in the National group have reached the highest level of the Clippers program. They have demonstrated a dedication and commitment to the sport and have met performance expectations for practice and meets. Swimmers in this group have reached or aspire to reach the National and International levels. This group does have practice and meet requirements.
