Orange
Group:
The Orange Group is designed for the
beginning swimmer that has a basic level of proficiency in
freestyle and backstroke. Correct breathing patterns are
introduced to swimmers along with legal turns and finishes in all
four strokes. Different games will be incorporated into time spent
in the water. These games are designed to build the swimmers
love for the water while acting as teaching tools for different
strokes. Ages of this group range form 5-8 years old.
Practice is offered three times per week and members of this group
are encouraged to attend two of these three practices.
Swimmers in the Blue Group must exhibit an understanding
of legal strokes, turns and finishes in all four strokes.
Athletes should be able to stream off his/her starts
and turns with the ability to do a dive off the starting
block. Ages of this group vary from 8 to 11 years old pending
ability.
Practices will be offered five
(5) times a week. Athletes are encouraged to try to attend
two (2) practices a week. Attendance will start to be
taken for swimmers to understand the importance of commitment and
work ethic. Advanced stroke drills aimed towards better
technique will be a major focus. This will help stress the
importance of proper stroke technique. Interval training
using the pace clock will become an important facet of
training. Aerobic fitness and athleticism will be desired
areas of development. All swimmers must have kickboards and
pull buoys and fins at all practices.
Swimmers in the Gold Group
will have practices offered six (6) times per week. Athletes
in this group are strongly encouraged to attend at least three (3)
practices a week. He or she must have demonstrated the
ability and maturity to handle increased intensity and length of
practices. The desire to make a strong commitment to the
sport of swimming is encouraged for consideration into this
group. The ability to modify strokes with proficiency in
starts and turns and the ability to learn and utilize posture, line
and balance drills will be expected. In addition, the desire
and ability to learn life skills such as goal setting and time
management will be
introduced.
This group utilizes a detailed
training program derived from our Senior Group’s training
regiment. This increased intensity and emphasis in aerobic
training is required to gain the benefits of total body
conditioning. The idea of race strategy will be introduced along
with some dryland training and lactate tolerance sets.
Swimmers will need the ability to perform advanced stroke drills
and communicate any and all stroke concerns to the coach.
Athletes will swim for up to an hour and forty-five minutes (1hr.
45 min.) All swimmers must have kickboards and pull buoys and fins
at all practices. Ages of this group can range from 9
to 12 years old.
This group will train with the Junior II Group in the
afternoon workouts. Junior I swimmers have gained experience
in the Sunkist training program and have adapted to harder physical
training. Junior group swimmers should be making more
of a commitment to swimming. Practice is offered 6 times a week,
and all swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend at least 4
practices per week. Swimmers will swim up to 2 hours and have
45 minutes of dryland twice a week. Swimmers should start to
understand the commitment and desire it takes to be an accomplished
swimmer. Swimmers should also be prepared for training more
aimed towards Individual Medley and distance freestyle.
One main consideration for placement into this group will be
the attainment of “BB” standards Ages can
range from 10 to 13 years old within this group.
Junior II Group swimmers have gained
experience in the Sunkist training program and have adapted to
intense physical training. This group is ready for the extra
commitment of training in the morning before school.
Junior group II swimmers should have the desire and willingness to
make the commitment to swimming. Practice is offered 8 times
a week. This group will be strongly encouraged to attend a minimum
of 3 afternoons, one morning and Saturday practice. Swimmers
will swim up to 2 hours and have 45 minutes of dryland training
twice a week. Swimmers should start to understand the
commitment and desire it takes to be an accomplished swimmer.
Swimmers should also be prepared for training centered on
Individual Medley and distance freestyle. One main
consideration for placement into this group will be a
minimum time
standard of “BB” and, should already be
attending middle school. Placement in the Junior II
group will be made by the Coaching Staff. Ages within the
Junior II group are 13-14
High School Group is for the mid to upper
level high school swimmer who shows the ability and desire to see
how good of a swimmer they can be. This group will swim
with the Senior Group. The inter-discipline, desire and
commitment for personal excellence is a “must have”
trait by the swimmer in this group. Sunkist will offer 9
workouts a week with an additional 5 dryland sessions a week.
The knowledge of swimmers times, technique and race strategy with
proper stroke mechanics are desired abilities for training in the
group. Personal growth and willingness to take responsibility
for the athletes own swimming progress is required.
Senior Group is for the advanced 13-14 year
old or the mid to upper level high school swimmer who shows the
ability and desire to see how good of a swimmer they can be.
Generally speaking the age requirements for the 13-14 year olds
are, girls starting 8th grade and boys starting
9th grade. The 13-14 swimmer must have two
“A” times for consideration into this
group.
The inter discipline,
desire and commitment for personal excellence is a must have trait
by the swimmer. There will be a total of 9 workouts and 5
dryland sessions per week. The athlete will
be required to make 80% of
workouts a month. This is the only
group with practice requirements to ensure commitment. The
knowledge of swimmers times, training, technique, race strategy and
an understanding of posture, line and balance with proper stroke
mechanics are desired abilities. Personal growth along with
desire and ability to take responsible for the athletes own
swimming progress is required. All athletes must be invited
to train with the senior group by the Head
Coach.
