The Gilroy Gators Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Gilroy Gators Swim Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

Fall Practice Schedule Begins August 21st, 2017

Water Lizards: M/W/F 5pm-5:30pm

Mighty Gators: M/T/TH/F 5:30pm-6:30pm

Cruisin' Crocs: M/T/TH/F 5:30pm-6:30pm

Iron Gators: M/T/W/TH/F 6pm-7:30pm

Bronze Gators: M/T/W/TH/F 6pm-8pm

Silver/Gold/Senior Development/Senior: M/T/W/TH/F 6pm-8pm, Sat 7am-9am, Dryland begins August 28th M/W/F 5pm-6pm

Please understand that the set requirements are a MINIMUM and just because your swimmer can perform them doesn’t mean they will automatically be promoted. It simply gives them the opportunity to discuss the next steps with their coach. In addition to the sets, there is commitment level, maturity, enthusiasm, coordination and skills, mental maturity, meet commitment, best times and what is best LONG TERM for the swimmer. Coaching staff has final say in all promotions. Swimmers will have an opportunity to discuss with their coach if they don’t feel they are ready for the promotion or can’t commit to the requirements of the next group above. Coaching staff will then discuss a plan of transition or that it might be best for the swimmer to remain in their current group at that time. Coaches will discuss these options with the swimmer and parent.  Swimmers who want to move up or parents that feel it’s time for them to move up always have the option of discussing this with the coaching staff. We will of course take this into consideration, but ultimately it will be the coaching staff that makes the decision. That decision needs to be respected by both the swimmer and parent. If it is ultimately the goal of that swimmer to be promoted the coaching staff might give additional skills that can be worked on and improved to help be considered the next time we do group promotions. It’s still no guarantee that your swimmer will be promoted, it just simply helps. Group promotions happen at the beginning of each season. (April after 10 & Under Championships and August/ after CVALs) Swimmers  will  not  be  completely shifted into a group between those times. The reason for this is because training is progressive. Therefore training will increasingly get harder as we prepare for our top meet during the season (Junior Olympics/ Far Westerns/ 10 & Under Champs/CVALS) It’s best for swimmers to have a fresh start and begin with the stroke training we start each season with.
