Swim Groups

The Oregon Community Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Oregon Community Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Group 1
This group is for the beginner learning the basics of competitive swimming. The pre-requisites for this group would be the same requirement as swim camp. This group will delve further into the fundamentals of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, starts, turns, and the legalities of each stroke. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in local meets and are required to attend the OCSC home meet and Conference meet. The minimum requirements for this group is to be able to swim a 25 meter freestyle, back stroke, and know how to dive.

Group 2
This group is for the intermediate swimmer who has passed out of group 1 and is very familiar with all strokes, knows how to dive, and do a flip turn. This group will provide more competitive training and get more specific with stroke technique. Like group 1, swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in local meets and are required to attend the OCSC home meet and Conference meet. The minimum requirement for this group is to be able to swim all strokes legally and have completed a 100 IM legally in a meet, be able to dive, and do a flip turn.

Group 3 
This group is for the more dedicated and skilled intermediate swimmer who has passed out of group 2 and wants to practice and compete at a higher level. These swimmers will be introduced to interval training, longer practices, and will follow a season workout plan. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in local meets, away meets, and are required to attend the OCSC home meet and Conference meet. The minimum requirement for this group is to swim a 200 IM legally at a meet.

Group 4 
This is for the dedicated advanced swimmer who has passed out of group 3 and consistently attends practice when offered. This group is an introduction to the “Pre-Elite” group. The swimmers will become more skilled at interval training and develop a stronger tolerance for longer and harder intervals. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in more competitive meets, as well as local meets, and are required to attend the OCSC home meet and Conference meet. The minimum requirement for this group is to be able to swim a 400 IM legally at a meet, hold 5 x 100 meter freestyle on a 2:05 minute (meter) base, without stopping and attend at least 3 practices a week. A drag suit should be worn at all practices.

Pre-Elite
This group is for the dedicated swimmer who has passed out of group 4 and is striving for state cuts. This group’s goal is to develop a consistent group to train with and go through what is necessary to qualify for state level competitions. Practice attendance is highly recommended and should be a top priority. The swimmers in this group are encouraged at sign up for at least 3 sessions a year. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in more competitive meets, as well as local meets, and are required to attend the OCSC home meet and Conference meet. The minimum requirement for this group is to be able to swim a 400 IM legally at a meet, hold 10 x 100 meter freestyle on 1.50 (meter) base, with out stopping, attend at least 4 practices a week, and have at least some B or higher cuts. A drag suit should be worn at all practices.

Elite 
This group is for the highly advance and dedicated swimmer who has passed out of the Pre-Elite’s and is striving for state cuts. This group’s goal is to develop a consistent group to train with and go through what is necessary to qualify for state and national level competitions. The swimmers in this group are encouraged at sign up for at least 3 sessions a year. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in more competetive meets, as well as local meets, and are required to attend the OCSC home meet and Conference meet. The minimum requirement for this group is to be able to swim a 400 IM legally at a meet, hold 10 x 100 freestyle on 1:40 (meter) base, with out stopping, attend at least 4 practices a week, and have at least some B+ or higher cuts. A drag suit should be worn at all practices.


HighSchool
This group is for the high school aged swimmer who wants to stay in shape and further develop their technique in and out of the pool. Practice attendance is not required. Meet participation is available but not required. This group will receive less guidance from the coaching staff and therefore will have a reduced registration fee. The minimum requirement for this group is a completion of at least one high school swim season. The final decision is based on the discretion of the head swim coach.
