Groups

Carolina Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of Carolina Aquatics to offer a progressive training environment for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

National (Ages 13-18)

Participation in this group is by invitation of the Head Coach Only and the swimmer must have met certain criteria. The focus of this group is to be competitive at a Sectional & National level and to become prepared for swimming at the collegiate level. Most of the training in this group will be based on conditioning and increasing their strength with still some devotion to stroke mechanics. The swimmers in this group will be required to show their commitment to their training all year round by maintaining at least a 85% attendance record, attend at least 2 morning workouts, mandatory dry land with the team, attending all meets designated by the Head Coach and will lead by example. These swimmers will also show the highest levels of support for the team and their teammates in all levels

Senior Group (Ages 13-18)

This group is designed for the swimmers who are ready to make the next step in their Senior swimming. These swimmers have shown the ability to perform consistently at practice whether in Senior Prep, the Junior National group or Black group. They also have shown a positive attitude, developed consistent stroke mechanics and have made some commitment to this sport and to the team. The primary focus of this group is to be highly competitive at the State Level, to be able to attend higher level meets and possibly competing at the collegiate level. The training in this group will focus on conditioning and increasing their strength but with a greater focus on mechanics than in the National Group. The swimmers in this group will maintain at least a 60% attendance record, attend at least 1 morning workout, have the option to do dry land with the team and attend all meets designated by the Head Coach. These swimmers will also show a high level of support for the team and their teammates in all levels.

Senior Prep (Ages 13-18)

This group is designed for the swimmers who enjoy the sport and wish to do it while balancing the demands of other activities outside the pool. This group offers a great opportunity for high school swimmers to get a little extra during the high school swimming season. The training in this group will be on increasing their conditioning and strength levels but with a greater focus on proper mechanics. Practices and dry land will be highly encouraged but there will be no requirements. The swimmers in this group must attend local meets hosted by our team but all other meets will be optional.

The opportunity to move up to the Senior Group will always be available to these swimmers if they should desire and wish to make a little more of a commitment.

Jr National (Ages 10-12)

This is a group designed for age group swimmers who want to make year round swimming part of their lives. The group will be focused on preparing the athletes to compete at the State and Regional Meet level. Aerobic conditioning, technique, and speed work will be the primary areas of focus for the group. The Junior National Group is a high-level training group. Jr. National swimmers will work on training longer distances, IM work, interval training, and aerobic base development along with essential speed work. Training will be geared to preparing the swimmer for state/regional competition and possibly a future in National Level competition. Swimmers should attend 4-5 practices a week

Black (Ages 9-12)

This is a competitive training group designed to prepare the swimmers for the Jr. National training group, and for state level competition. The emphasis will be to continue to reinforce the skills taught in White Group. Continued aerobic development will be stressed, and anaerobic training will be introduced as well as develop endurance and overall muscle tone. It is recommended that each swimmer attend 4 practices a week.

White (Ages 7-12)

The White group is a competitive training group with the goal of preparing the swimmers to compete on the local and above levels. The emphasis will be to continue to refine the basics of the skills necessary to become a successful competitive swimmer. Advanced stroke drills to improve mechanics, training and racing strategies, goal setting, and meet preparation will be introduced. Developing a higher aerobic capacity will be a focus of the White Group. It is reccomended that each swimmer attend at least 3 practices.

Red 2 / Red 3 (Ages 5 - 12)

The Red Groups will concentrate on refining all four competitive strokes including the starts, turns and proper streamlines. All skills will be taught with an emphasis on technique in order to provide the swimmer with a solid foundation in swimming. The Red Groups will learn an understanding of stroke drills and learn the skills to complete a legal IM. These groups have 5 practices offered but the Red 2 comes to only 2 practices and Red 3 comes to only 3 practices. The family has the option on which days they wish to come.
