How to join/About

The Marin Pirates Swim offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the The Marin Pirates Swim to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

To join any Marin Pirate training group show up on any Monday at 3:45 p.m. to talk to a Marin Pirate Coach.  Please email or call Warren Lager or Tom Evers (see e-mail addresses below) prior to showing up at the pool on a Monday.


 

Senior Group - IVC

This group consists of committed swimmers ages 14 to 18+ who are shooting for the highest level of training and competition.Long range goals include competition at the collegiate and national level.   Team members are asked to commit to a high level of dedication.

Age Group - IVC

This program is designed for swimmers ages 5-14.  The majority of this group swims year-round with the Pirates, but swimmers who wish to compete seasonally and then return to the Marin Swim League for the summer are also welcome. Meets are available approximately once a month. The 2008-2009 season will be the fifth year this team trains year-round.

Age Group - Kentfield

Please note that the Kentfield program is temporarily suspended while College of Marin’s Kentfield P.E. complex is under reconstruction.  

All Southern Marin swimmers are invited to practice with our age group program at the Indian Valley Campus.  We are waiting to hear word about which pool the program will be able to use beginning in November, 2009.

Normally, this program, split into 3 sessions, is designed for Marin Swim League members ages 6 - 14 who wish to train from September through February.

Pirate History

 

 

1946         Pirates founded by Beth Kaufman.  Designs   blueprint for all age-group swimming in the United States .



 

1967          Kaufman elected to International Swimming Hall of Fame

 

1969         Marin Pirates merges with Ann Curtis Swim Club (coached by San Francisco and Marin Olympic Gold Medalist Ann Curtis Cuneo) to form Marin Swim Club





 

 

1979         Warren Lager revives the Pirates after a 10 year hiatus with 20 swimmers at Tamalapais High School .




 

 

1980           First swimmer qualifies for Junior Nationals.

 

1982           First swimmer qualifies for Senior Nationals.

 

1983           Pirates move from Tamalpais High School to College of Marin ’s Kentfield Campus.





 

 

1984          First Olympic Trial qualifier.

1991          Pirates begin Age-Group program at Kentfield

 

1992          Pirates begin Age-Group program at Sir Francis Drake High School.

 

1994         Pirates win first of ten Pacific Swimming Zone 3 Championships.

 

1999         Pirates Senior Team moves from Kentfield to Indian Valley Campus.  Tom Evers begins Novato Age-Group program.
