Welcome to East Grand Rapids Masters Swimming! We are a local Grand Rapids Area Master’s team that practices weekly at East Grand Rapids High School Pool to develop, train, and improve stroke technique and abilities in all four competitive strokes.

We offer coached training to all competitive & recreational swimmers, tri-athletes, and swimming enthusiasts 18+ with additional optional opportunities to participate in US Masters Meets.


Fall/ Winter 2019-2020:

$325/25 week season + registration (annually) with US Masters Swimming. Spring Only, Summer Only, or pro-rated options available upon request.

There is a three-step process to register with EGRA Masters:

1.   Register here for EGRA Masters.

2.   Register for USMS Membership on Please make sure to select "EGRA Masters" when choosing your workout group. Print off copy of USMS card so that it can be held on file.

3.   Complete and turn in your Health & Goal form

Coaching Staff

COACH: Alec Kandt

Alec is the Head Age Group Coach and the Head Masters coach. Alec was born and raised in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota where he swam for South East Metro Sharks swim club for ten years and achieved multiple state titles. Alec graduated from Simley High School where he was a State champion, All-American and currently still hold multiple school records.

After high school, Alec continued his swimming career at Michigan State University where he swam for Coach Gianiodis. While at MSU Alec was a 4-year letter winner, a 3-time Male Swimmer of the year, top-8 Finisher at the BIG Ten championships and the US Nationals. Alec still is the Varsity Record holder in the 100 Breaststroke. While swimming for MSU, Alec was given the opportunity to compete and even place at many different major National meets, including the 2016 Olympic Trials. Alec was selected to represent MSU on the Big Ten All Star Team when they swam against the National Team in 2016.

While at MSU, Alec was given a chance to start his coaching career. Alec started coaching for Mid-Michigan Aquatics. Alec worked for MMA for almost two years before I accepted a position with the University of Florida And Gator Swim Club. In 2018 Alec was the Volunteer Assistant for the University of Florida. While with Florida Alec was the Primary Breaststroke Coach, but also worked with Head Coach Gregg Troy and his group. In 2018 Alec was able to help the team to bring the 7th straight SEC Title back to the University of Florida. Also, while in Gainesville Alec worked with Gator Swim Club as an Assistant coach. While with GSC Alec had the opportunity to work with the pro team and coach athletes like Ryan Lochte, Caeleb Dressel, Jan Switkowski, and many other high-profile athletes.
