RAYS SWIM SCHOOL LEVEL OUTLINE

 

First Three Levels:

 

RED LEVEL:

 

Pre Assessment:

Learners must demonstrate the following skills before beginning RED Level

 

  • Enter the water safely

 

  • Move independently from the poolside

 

  • Submerge confidently

 

RED Level Goal

 

·         To gain confidence and competence in the pool environment including submersion and breath control through the surface.

 

RED Level Objective

 

Learners should be able to consistently demonstrate the following criteria

 

1.1 Unassisted Entry

1.2 Move in the Water

1.3 Safe Exits

1.4 Submerge and Blow Bubbles

1.5 Pick up Objects Under Water

 

WHITE LEVEL:

 

Pre Assessment:

Learners must demonstrate the following skills before beginning WHITE Level

 

·         Submerge for at least a slow count of 5 in a relaxed manner

 

WHITE Level Goal

 

·         To develop confidence and competence in floating, gliding, kicking and arm action on front and back, and to be introduced to horizontal rotation i.e. the basics to rotation.

 

WHITE Level Objectives

 

Learners should be able to consistently demonstrate the following criteria

 

2.1             Sit and 1/4 Turn Entry

 

2.2a           Float on Front and Regain Feet

 

2.2b           Float on Back and Regain Feet

 

2.3a           Streamline Glide on Front with leg action

 

2.3b           Streamline Glide on Back with leg action

 

2.4                     Freestyle Arm Action

2.5                     Backstroke Arm Action

2.6                     Horizontal Rotation

2.7                     Sculling

2.8                     Rigid Aid Assistance

 

BLUE LEVEL:

 

Pre Assessment:

Learners must demonstrate the following skills before beginning BLUE Level

 

·         Streamlined glide and kick on front and back 5m

 

·         Relaxed roll from back to front and front to back

 

·         Demonstrate controlled Freestyle and Backstroke arm and leg action for at least 5m

 

BLUE Level Goal

 

·         To develop Freestyle and Backstroke swimming skills and to introduce Breaststroke and increase Water Safety awareness

 

BLUE Level Objectives

 

Learners should be able to consistently demonstrate the following criteria:

1.6               Crouch and 1/4 Turn Entry

1.7               Float with Improvised Flotation Equipment

1.8               Freestyle Breathing Position

1.9               15m Freestyle

1.10            15m Backstroke

1.11            15m Scull

1.12            Breaststroke Leg Action

1.13            Breaststroke Arm Action

1.14            Non-rigid Equipment Assistance
