Secretary�s Report, Kathy Dacey (BGSC):Minutes from July 20, 2004 were accepted with the following revision:The Calendar Committee wants to offer a second Meet Manager�s meeting in October prior to the Board meeting for teams who missed the annual meeting, so that they would be eligible to host a meet.Motion to accept minutes made by Dan Warner (NSSC), second by Laura Matuszack (GMA), motion passes.

 

Treasurer�s Report, Carol Healey (SAC):as of 10/12/04

Reimbursement, Mary Riddell (NE):Motion made to accept a request for a waiver for Stacie Lesneski (MAG) to receive reimbursement without having the required number of meets.Motion by Bill Geary, second by Dan Warner, motion passes.CUDA swimmers who requested reimbursement need to present additional documentation.

 

Senior Meet:To be held at Bowdoin College in Maine, run by Seacoast Swimming Association, qualifying times presented.Meet will run to 27 places in the evening to score, 4 relays per team, 2 may score, 9 events per swimmer limit.Swimmers must choose between the Senior or the Open meet, cannot attend both.Coaches and swimmers are reminded that the NE Open is the same weekend as Sectionals.Teams from outside of NE must qualify in each individual event � no bonus events allowed.Relays must have one qualified swimmer � relay may be filled out with 3 additional swimmers from the team, regardless of whether they have an individual qualifying event or not.The NE Open will feature a 13-14 heat; placers in this heat will be able to get awards.Motion made to accept the format of this meet and the time standards by Priscilla Davis (UN-NE), second by Dave LeBlanc (YNS), motion passes.

 

Open Meet:There will be 4 relays per team allowed, and a relay can just be 13-14 so that the relay is eligible for NAG Top 16, NE Top 10, etc.A swimmer with no individual events may fill out one relay.Motion made to allow 4 relays maximum per team; all may score, with the 13-14 relay allowed to have a non-qualifying swimmer in the first relay.Motion passes.

 

Age Group Committee, Laura Matuszak (GMA):Report of the Age-Group Committee presented.Committee consists of Laura Matuszak (GMA), Amy Parratto (SSA), Paul Bennett, Matt Craven (SAC) and Ron Zuwallack (CCSC).Discussion regarding report.Report will be put on the NE website.

 

Presentation made to Priscilla Davis (UN-NE) of the Maxwell Excellence Award, given to outstanding members of United States Swimming for their dedicated contributions to the sport of swimming.

 

Meet schedule:9-12�s and Regionals for 9-12�s will be in the spring, 8 & Unders Fun Meet and 12 & Unders will be in the summer.The Age Group Committee will further define the size of these meets.

 

Lengthy discussion ensued about the placement of the 13-14 age group in championship meets.The question is to go to the Age Group and Senior Committees, who will meet to discuss and finalize their recommendations to the Board.

 

Motion made to add distance and high point awards for 11-12�s, as per the recommendation of the Age Group Championship Meet Committee.Motion made by Mariella Allard (UN), second by Pam Warner (BOSS), motion passes.

 

Technical Committee, Dan Warner (NSSC):Minutes from Technical Committee meeting of September 1, 2004 were reviewed.Recommendation for changing meet fees was removed from the body of the meeting.Motion made to accept minutes of Technical Committee by Laura Matuszak, second by Priscilla Davis, motion passes.

 

Calendar Committee, Bob Gauvin, (SCA):Calendar Committee will meet at the 12 & Unders meet in the winter, bids for Long Course are due February 1st, 2005.The Annual Meeting is proposed for the 1st Saturday of May, 2005.

 

Zone Committee, Laura Matuszak (GMA):good time had by all, successful meet for NE swimmers.

 

A reminder to all Board members that they must be registered members of United States Swimming.

 

The clinic with Eric Vendt, scheduled for 10/23/04 from 2-6p.m. at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island has over 90 swimmers registered as of today.

 

The Top 10 certificates for the banquet are completed.They include all NE approved meets.

 

Congratulations to the New England Swimming Age Group Coaches of the Year:

Michele Bernal (BGSC) and Carl Cedarquist (MAG).

 

Officials Committee, Bill Geary (MAG):On October 23, 2004 there will be a Referee Facilitator certification class.Location to be announced later.

 

Chairman Ray Grant discussed the issue of background checks, which was a very hot topic at the National Convention in Orlando, Florida, which many members of the Board have just returned from.The National office is in the process of putting in place a system which may be available to all US Swimming members, and ultimately may be required for membership.The NE Committee will continue to keep the members of NE Swimming updated on the progress of this system.

 

There will be a LSC Officials Chairman meeting in Colorado.

There will be a General Chair�s meeting in Colorado in January. 2005.

There will be a Pool Facilities Development meeting in Colorado.

There will be an Age Group Chairman�s meeting in April or May in Colorado.

There will be a Registration and NTV meeting in Tampa, Florida.

 

Safety Committee, Priscilla Davis (UN-NE):A reminder that all swimmers in the pool must be kept in the line of sight of the safety marshals.
