Secretary�s Report:Minutes accepted with minor typographical changes.

 

Treasurer�s Report, Carol Healey (SAC):

Discussion regarding status of Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue tax filings, updating information with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for NES Annual filings, and change of address for the State Attorney General�s Office (completed by Kathy Dacey (BGSC)).Motion made to accept the Treasurer�s Report by Priscilla Davis (UN-NE), 2nd by Dan Warner (NSSC), motion passes.

 

Reimbursement, presented by Mary Riddell (NE-Office):Late filing requests for reimbursement were not considered.Applications by Alex Roan and Tobias Work were approved.Application requests by Harvard Women�s Swimming members Bassi and Hart were discussed and not approved, due to Harvard Women�s Swimming not being a member of New England Swimming for the period required to be granted reimbursement.

 

Clinic and Banquet:70 swimmers attended the Clinic with Ed Moses, and the Banquet was attended by 528 people.Ed Moses was wonderful with the swimmers, made a fabulous speech and a good time was had by all.The Banquet is now a highpoint on the New England Swimming calendar, and further discussion will be had about moving the event to a larger facility to accommodate the ever-growing number of swimmers and their families who want to attend this popular event.

 

The new Eastern Zone representative from United States Swimming is now Peter Clark, former head coach from Tritan Swimming, out of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.Ira Klein, the former Eastern Zone representative will now be based entirely out of Colorado Springs.

 

At the recent Club Leadership/Business Management session held there were 10 clubs from the Northeast, one from Massachusetts.

 

End of Season Meets are ready to be posted on the website shortly.

 

New England Seniors:Tim Murphy (MBM) has offered the Harvard facility, although he and Rick Osterberg (computer) will be out of town for that entire time period.He asks that NE Swimming run this meet, with the Squids to run the hospitality area.He will sublet the pool for $15,000 for a 3.5 day meet ($4,200 per day).He will take care of providing parking. This fee may be negotiable.

 

Athlete Representatives, Ben Daus-Haberle (BOSS) & Sophia Slote (SNAP):The athlete representatives presented additional discussion regarding a proposed Scholarship, and will be sending out a more formal proposal prior to the next meeting.

 

Coach�s Report:No report for this meeting.

 

Officials Report, Scott Doty (PSC):The officials committee is in good shape, with over 300 officials currently registered with NES.Clinics are frequent and well attended, there are many new apprentices.Paul Memont, a highly respected and valued official for many years in NE has now become active again and is currently on the FINA list and qualified to work at the Olympics as a starter.New England should take great pride in knowing that it has provided the opportunity for highly skilled and motivated officials to move up in the National and International rankings.

 

Scott Doty (PSC) mentioned that efforts have been made to have most, if not all of the upcoming HS championship events observed so that the times quality for US Swimming events.

 

Technical Committee:No report for this meeting.

 

Discussion regarding a common problem of teams attending trials and finals events and not scratching for Sunday�s events and not showing, therefore preventing alternates from receiving timely notification that they could have the opportunity to swim.Dan Warner, Technical Committee Chairman, will consider this problem and email members of the Committee.It was decided that it was acceptable to the Board for the Technical Committee to implement a fine should it decide to do so.

 

Other Business:Mike Parratto (SSA) has resigned as the Senior Chairman.General Chair Ray Grant (SSA) appoints Josh Stern (BOSS) to complete this term as Senior Chairman, and is no longer a member-at-large.Mike Parratto (SSA) is nominated as an At-Large member, motion made to accept this nomination by Mariella Allard (UN-NE) and Ben Daus-Haberle (BOSS), motion passes with one abstention.

 

Discussion regarding the Senior Committee.This committee will be restructured within the next 2 months.

 

Mary Riddell (NE-Office) announced that Kia Simmons (BOSS) and Michael Sullivan (Bluefish) have been invited to Select Camps.

 

Bob Gauvin (SCA) announced that New England, US Olympian and World-Record holder Jenny Thompson has begun a residency at the Brigham and Women�s Hospital in Boston, and wouldn�t it be great if she could be the guest speaker at the �07 Banquet.He�s working on it!

 

Discussion regarding using the website to showcase members of NE Swimming who have been selected for National Team membership.Mary Riddell (NE-Office) will begin to feed this information to Rick Osterberg (NE-Webmaster) for him to post on the website.

 

Discussion regarding 2 LSC�s which are in dire financial straits, and how to safeguard our LSC against such an event.

 

Matt Craven (SAC) commented that with a the Age Group cuts faster this year, many coaches believe that the Regional Meets will be very full, even with 5 sites this year.

 

The next meeting of the Board of New England Swimming is scheduled for January 9th, if the room is available.If not, it will be the 8th.Check the website and look for emails.
