Zone Meeting Review, Ray Grant (SSA):Laura Matuszak (GMA), Ray Grant (SSA) and Sharon Power (Maine) from our region attended the Zone meeting which was held in Portland, Maine. No one is bidding on the short course Zone Meet. The Zone Director can award this meet without a vote of the complete Board; New England no longer attends this meet.

Sectionals will be in Maryland, held at St, Marys College; the meet has been held here successfully before.Discussion about how to make this meet more attractive ideas such as dorm room availability to reduce costs, meal plans etc., but it turns out that this will cost the same as a hotel. The Sectional meets held in the summer tend to be weaker meets.Sectionals next year will be held on the same weekend in March on Long Island at the Goodwill Games pool, Eisenhower Park & at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus (UMBC).

Calendar Committee:Long Course (LC) and proposed Short Course (SC) calendars proposed.Rick Osterberg (Webmaster) to put them on line so that bids can be accepted. August 3,4,5 12 & Unders to be held at Springfield College.

Qualifying times for the Zone Meet this summer cannot be used from 12 & Unders, due to timing issues.Laura Matuszak (GMA) will call individual athletes to fill out roster.

Convention:There is a shorter convention planned for this year.Attendees should plan to fly into either Long Beach or John Wayne Airport. Those planning on attending should book their flights now to get the cheapest prices.

New England Swimming Annual Banquet:The cost of attending the banquet is up due to increased charges from the restaurant facility.Cost of the meal alone is at $20.79 at the Mill House, not including incidental charges and the speaker.Outstanding Swimmers in each age group still attend for free.Motion made to increase the charge for attending the banquet to $25.00 per person.Motion passes.

Coaches Representative Sherry Wingfield (HRY):A master list of the coachs emails has been prepared and an email has been sent out to see if there are any current pressing concerns.

Officials Committee:A search is underway for a meet referee for 12 & Unders; seeking a meet referee not from the home town where the meet is being held. There is an Officials Chair meeting in San Antonio, TX coming up; the emphasis is on how to streamline keeping records and computerizing information. The Meet Referee for 13 & Overs will be Scott Doty (PSC).

Athlete Representative:Chairman Ray Grant (SSA) thanked Sophia Slote (SNAP), outgoing Senior Athlete Representative for her excellent service to the Board of New England Swimming by presenting her with several gifts as a token of New Englands appreciation for her hard work. The Board wishes Sophia well as she looks forward to her freshman year at Macalester College in the fall.

Technical Committee:Chairman Ray Grant (SSA) will name members to the Technical Committee in the fall.

Other Business:Mary Riddell (NE-Office) spoke about the Catch the Spirit Camp which Amy Parratto (SSA) ran at Wellesley College.Twenty (20) swimmers attended and an excellent time was had by all.The camp can accommodate a few more swimmers and coaches and parents are encouraged to look at the NE Calendar to plan on attending the next camp.Ray Grant (SSA) suggested moving the camp to the end of March or perhaps doing it in conjunction with another LSC to mix things up a bit and keep things interesting. The LSC should put large posters advertising the camp behind the admissions desks at the Regional meets to promote this educational and fun event in the future.

Five At-Large appointments to the Board will be made at the September meeting.

The next meeting of the Board of New England Swimming will be held the second week of September, prior to Convention, potentially Monday, September 10, 2007.Check your email and the website for confirmation.
