Comments:

Calendar Committee, Bob Gauvin (SCA):12 & Unders has 2 bids, the first from ABF for the weekend of February 21, 22, 23 & 24th, 2008 to be held at Attleboro HS.The second from NAS for the weekend before Easter (March 20-23) at Smith College.Harvard University is still not sure it will be able to host 13 & Overs February 7, 8, 9 & 10th, 2008.

Banquet, Mary Riddell (NES-Office):Over 500 people attended this years banquet.Neil Walker was an excellent speaker, and did a great job at the clinic.60 swimmers attended the clinic and that is the perfect number for a successful event.Mutual of Omaha sent prizes and that added to the excitement of the clinic. The certificates were a big success and a wonderful time was had by all at both events.

Club Leadership & Business Seminar, Mary Riddell (NES-Office):will be held this weekend at the Westborough Swim and Tennis club. Two teams from CT and 6 from New England will be attending.Peter Clark from USA Swimming will run this event.

Board of Review, Priscilla Davis (UN-NE):A reminder to all that the USOC is now requiring that 20% of all votes are reserved for athletes. At a Board of Review hearing an athlete representative MUST be present, or the Board of Review will have to reschedule.

Additional comments on Boards of Review (BofR):

A local BofR can dismiss an action if they feel that there is no merit to the claim. This can be appealed to the National office for a fee of $250.00.There should be an investigative panel which can consist of only the Chairperson, who then recluses themselves if it goes to the panel.

Should a BofR remove a coachs privileges, the coach can appeal.

There should be someone representing the BofR on official association trips, so that if someone is facing being sent home, the opportunity for a hearing exists prior to any actions being taken.

At this time, USA Swimming membership is suspended if someone is in jail.A subsequent hearing is then handled at the national level.

The By-Laws of the Association will indicate if a full Board hearing is called for or if a panel of three can handle the issue, based on the nature of the issue.

Meetings should be recorded on a tape recorder. This does not include deliberations, which are done behind closed doors and are kept private.

Discussion regarding the placement of additional athletes on the Board, and the need to amend the By-Laws to accommodate this requirement for additional athletes. These athletes could be added as alternates to the Board, and do not necessarily need to be minor (in age) athletes, but could be older athletes who are competing at older levels (college) or who are working. It is possible to list up to five alternates.

Officials, Bob Menck (UN-NE):There are currently 350+ certified officials.Kathy Schubert (NSSC) and Mike Harrison (UN-NE) were sent to St. Louis, MO for USA Swimming Officials training, and they both thank the committee for allowing them to attend this valuable event.Meet referee for Seniors will be Joan Biesel (ABF), David Saunders (SSA) will be the Admin. Referee, Paul Memont (UN-NE), Priscilla Davis (UN-NE) and Bob Menck (UN-NE) will also be working this meet, which is a National Certification qualifying meet.
