UANA/ASUA NOTICE OF SANCTIONS

 

 

On May 4, 2005, the Executive Committee of the Uni�n Amateur de Nataci�n de las Am�ricas /Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas(UANA/ASUA) announced the following disciplinary measures being taken by UANA/ASUA as a result of incidents occurring at the America�s Qualification for the XI World Swimming Championships and ASUA Cup which occurred in Mexico from April 10 to 17, 2005:

 

a)�������� The player from Brazil, Marcelo Chiagas, was suspended from Water Polo matches for a period of six months from April 16, 2005 as a result of his actions in the America�s Qualification Tournament in physically contacting one of the referees of the men�s game, BrazilCuba, after the conclusion of the match.

 

b)�������� The player from Brazil, Denise Costa, was suspended from Water Polo matches for a period of six months from April 16, 2005 as a result of her actions in the ASUA Cup in physically contacting one of the referees of the women�s game, BrazilCuba, after the conclusion of the match.

 

The Executive Committee of theUni�n de Nataci�n de las Am�ricas /Amateur Swimming Union of the Americasexpresses its strong condemnation of team members and representatives physically confronting officials at competitions and, in its decision, is providing notice that it will deal much harsher with similar incidents in the future.All participants must remember, at all times, the concepts of fair play, respect for sporting values and respect for the decisions of our officials.
