WHO WE ARE

Indiana Swim Club (ISC) was originally founded in 1955 as Bloomington Swim Club by the legendary Dr. James E. “Doc” Counsilman as a competitive swimming program for children ages 5-21. At the time the Club was sponsored by Bloomington Parks and Recreation, and in 1967 the club became a not-for profit, run by a Board of Directors consisting of parents and other interested members of the community. In 2018 Bloomington Swim Club was reimaged as Indiana Swim Club (ISC). Indiana Swim Club is a member of USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming, and Indiana Swimming, Inc. (ISI), the governing body for swimming in the state of Indiana.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Indiana Swim Club is to make available the opportunity for people in the Bloomington area to experience the great sport of swimming at a variety of levels, from the beginning swimmer to the national caliber swimmer.

Young swimmers who want to compete and achieve excellence will find the coaching, training, and facilities they need.  Our coaches understand the techniques and attention needed for swimmers to develop their potential. ISC participates in a full cycle of club meets, so swimmers can measure their progress and gain competition experience.

Competing in meets and attending every practice is not mandatory, however; swimmers can choose their level of involvement. Some swim for health and fitness and do not compete.  Others belong to ISC for the camaraderie and friendships that develop among families. From the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to the excitement of cutting-edge competitive sports, ISC offers a wide range of participation.

ISC SEASONS

ISC is organized around two competitive seasons: Short Course and Long Course.

Short Course
The Short Course season is held in 25-yard pools and runs from September to March. These practices and meets are held indoors.

Long Course
The Long Course season runs from April through July. During this time, practice and meets are held in 50-meter pools, which are frequently outdoors.
