Ridgway YMCA Blue Tide Swim Team?
We are a Swim Team who swims for the Ridgway YMCA
we swim at the St Marys Area High School. We
* Male & Female Swimmers ages 5-21 (who swim
against swimmers in our own age group)
*A team who swims local, with the opportunity
to swim district, state, & nationally.
*A team that is trained by YMCA certified
coaches, who are also certified in lifeguarding, 1st Aid, and CPR.
* A team that competes in meets run by YMCA
* A team that is well run by the Blue Tide Swim
boosters who are bound by a set of by-laws of the team as well as
the league - the boosters will be looking to the parents to sign up
for duties during the season. You will need to help with
fundraisers, and with running the meets. Also at the meets
they will be looking for concession stand items to help raise money
for our team.
*A Team who is proudly led by Head Coach, Mary
Secco and a great list of assistant coaches
Do you have to know how to
*NO. BUT you DO need to be able
to float, doggy paddle, put your face in the water. You must
be able to jump into the water and get back to the edge of the
pool. (Unfortunately we are not swim lessons)
SOMEONE FROM THE COACHING STAFF WILL BE WORKING
WITH ALL NEW SWIMMERS ON A ONE-TO-ONE BASIS, AND IT WILL BE
DETERMINED BY THE HEAD COACH IF HE/SHE HAS PROPER SWIM ABILITIES TO
BE A PART OF THE BLUE TIDE SWIM TEAM.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN WHEN YOU ARE PART
OF OUR TEAM?
* All 4 Swim Strokes - Freestyle,
Breaststroke, Backstroke, & Butterfly
* How to Dive, do Flip Turns, and Finishes
* Stretching/fitness training
* Eating for an athlete *
Sportsmanship and competition skills
(We use visual aids, drills, and lots of practice
to learn all these things)
Where and When are
* Practices are held at the St Marys Area High
*We practice Monday-Friday Swimmers are
required to attend at least 4 nights out of the week.
*We have 2 Different Practice Times
5:30-6:30PM THE 'WAVES" - this
is for the 9 and under age group
6:00-7:30PM THE "TIDES"
- this is for the 10 and over age group
***The coaching staff may determine if a
swimmer needs to move to a different
time slot and they do have the final
What age group will your swimmer be
Your swimmers age for the entire swim season is
determined by what age they are ON DEC 1,
The age groups are...
8 and Under - They are part of
the Cadets for districts
but swim against 8 and unders during the
9-10 Are the Cadets
11-12 are the Preps
13-14 are Juniors
15-21 are Seniors
Where and When are Swim
*The schedule varies from year to year but we
usually have about 3 home meets and 5 away meets
* Home Meets: St Marys Area High School starting
*Away Meets: Can be from Clarion University
down to Lock Haven University (each year this varies) and the start
times can be 9AM or an occasional away meet
start at 1PM.
Are there fees involved to Join the
*YES. The fees include a
membership to the YMCA (which is required in order to compete with
*The remainder of the fees are used to pay use of
the facilities, coaches, awards, and other costs incurred to
compete in the league.
* The fee for the season if paid in one sum up
* There is an option to pay $80 during
registration week with another payment of $80 due by December
1st. Your swimmer will not able to compete in the meets if
the Dec 1st paymnet has not been made.
There is a discount for the third swimmer in one
SMAHS Swim Team Members: $80 to be paid at

ups, calendar for the season, and other information pertaining to
the swim season.
*At the pool October 16th - October 18th
Each night registration is held during practice from
5:30-6:30pm. You must fill out your registration forms and
bring them to practice with you starting October 16th, 2018- You
can use these first couple of days as a trial if you are unsure
about joining but all registrations are due by Thursday, October
18th by the end of your practice.
*Everyone must fill out a sign a registration
form for each of your swimmers and the form must be signed

For this first week we would
like new swimmers and swimmers 9 and under to attend
the 5:30-6:30pm practice and everyone else to attend
MANDATORY Parent & Swimmer
*To be held at the SMAHS School Cafeteria Monday,
October 22nd @ 6:00PM in the High School Cafeteria
*This is a fun and informative meeting that
ALL parents and swimmers are
REQUIRED to attend!! (*Immediately following this
meeting I would like to meet with all swim team members who
are planning on swimming on the High School Team also)
AT THIS MANDATORY MEETING....
*You will get all information for the season
* You will get a chance to meet all your coaches,
the swim booster officers, other parents, and swimmers
*You will get a chance to win some awesome
*We will not swim on this night!!
