ABOUT

What is Ridgway YMCA Blue Tide Swim Team?

We are a Swim Team who swims for the Ridgway YMCA but

we swim at the St Marys Area High School. We are...

* Male & Female Swimmers ages 5-21 (who swim against swimmers in our own age group)

*A team who swims local, with the opportunity to swim district, state, & at the National Level.

*A team that is trained by YMCA certified coaches, who are also certified in lifeguarding, 1st Aid, CPR. concussion, mandated reporting, and who have all their clearances.

* A team that competes in meets run by YMCA certified Officials

* A team that is well run by the Blue Tide Swim boosters who are bound by a set of by-laws of the team as well as the league - the boosters will be looking to the parents to sign up for duties during the season.  You will need to help with fundraisers, and with running the meets.  Also at the meets they will be looking for concession stand items to help raise money for our team.

*A Team who is proudly led by Head Coach, Mary Secco and a great list of assistant coaches

Liz Thorwart, Katie Lanzel, & Becky Pistner

Do you have to know how to swim?

*NO. BUT you DO need to be able to float, doggy paddle, put your face in the water.  You must be able to jump into the water and get back to the edge of the pool.  (Unfortunately we are not swim lessons)

SOMEONE FROM THE COACHING STAFF WILL BE WORKING WITH ALL NEW SWIMMERS ON A ONE-TO-ONE BASIS, AND IT WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE HEAD COACH IF HE/SHE HAS PROPER SWIM ABILITIES TO BE A PART OF THE BLUE TIDE SWIM TEAM.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN WHEN YOU ARE PART OF OUR TEAM?

* All 4 Swim Strokes -  Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, & Butterfly

* How to Dive, do Flip Turns, and Finishes  * Stretching/fitness training

* Eating for an athlete     * Sportsmanship and competition skills

(We use visual aids, drills, and lots of practice to learn all these things)

Where and When are Practices?

* Practices are held at the St Marys Area High School

*We practice Monday-Friday  Swimmers are required to attend at least 4 nights out of the week.

At this time we know we will be starting practices at 5:30, the duration and number of practices will be determined after we receive the approval/denial from the school.

***The coaching staff may determine if a swimmer needs to move to a different

time slot and they do have the final say*****

What age group will your swimmer be in?

Your swimmers age for the entire swim season is determined by what age they are ON DEC 1, 2018.

The age groups are...

8 and Under - They are part of the Cadets for districts

but swim against 8 and unders during the regular season

9-10 Are the Cadets

11-12 are the Preps

13-14 are Juniors
