The Mission of the Wooster YMCA Swim Team:

To provide the opportunity for each athlete to attain his or her maximum individual potential as a part of a team in the sport of competitive swimming.  We are committed to helping our swimmers grow not only as athletes, but also in character, by teaching the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.  We will also provide instruction, training and competition for all levels of swimmers.  Instill an appreciation of commitment, dedication, discipline and hard work in an individual in the pursuit of team achievement.  Provide opportunities for positive social, emotional and cultural growth and encourage the highest degree of sportsmanship and team spirit.

About YMCA of Wooster and Rec Club:

YMCA of Wooster and Rec Club (YWRC) is a year round competitive swimming program.  In the fall/winter season, our club competes in the Northeast Ohio (NEO) YMCA League and for the YMCA of Wooster.  Your children have to maintain a YMCA membership to participate on the YMCA swim team.  Our team participates in Dual Meets throughout the season against other clubs in the NEO League as well as Invitationals.  At the end of the winter season, if your child has participated in a combination of any 3 dual meets or invitationals, they qualify for NEO Division Champs.  From there, the top 30 in each age group and event go on to qualify for the NEO League Champs.  Following League Champs, there are also Great Lakes Zone Championships and YMCA Nationals which your children can qualify by meeting time standards in all age groups except for 8 & unders.

In the summer season, YWRC competes as a Rec Club through the City of Wooster at Freedlander Pool.  Your children have to have a summer pool pass through the City of Wooster to participate on the Rec swim team.  Our club competes in the Mid Ohio Swim League (MOSL) and we participate in dual meets vs. other teams in the league thoughout the season.  At the end of the season, if your child has participated in 3 dual meets, they qualify to swim in the MOSL Championships held every year at Freedlander Pool in Wooster.

USA Swimming:  YWRC is also a member of USA Swimming year around, but primarily throughout the summer season.  Our club hosts a USA Sanctioned Swim Meet which is the Freedlander Meet.  You have the option of signing your child up for a USA Swimming Membership which would then allow them to compete in the Freedlander Meet as well as other USA Long Course meets throughout the summer season.  We highly encourage all swimmers to become members in USA Swimming and compete in as many USA Meets as possible.
