About Us

Who We Are

The Spruce Grove Barracudas Summer Swim Club is celebrating it's 41st year in the community of Spruce Grove as the club was formed in 1975!  Last year we had 80 plus swimmers ranging in age from 5 to 18 and a couple of our younger swimmers got medals at the Provincials!

Our Pool

The "Cudas" swim out of the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre located at 221 Campsite Road (Jennifer Heil Way) in Spruce Grove with a spacious 10 lane 25 meter pool. This state of the art facility not only provides a safe environment for our children but also serves as a place for our parents to get in shape at the same time.

When Do We Start?

Our season starts May 1st.  Our only requirement is that they can swim one length of the pool unassisted.  Our coaches make it a lot of fun and everyone gets to do lots and lots of swimming, trying out different strokes and playing games to help improve their swimming.

How Often Do We Train?

The club trains every week night.   While we practice every week night, there is no requirement to attend every practice and it varies for every swimmer.  Some go every night, some every second night and some a couple times a week.  Because everyone pays the same amount for registration, the more you go the better value you get!  As we get closer to the start of the season we will post the times on the Schedule Page.

How Much Does it Cost?

For the 2018 Season we have created groups.

  6 & Under Little Cudas = $320.00

  7-10 Junior Cudas = $360.00

  11-17 Senior Cudas = $360.00

  13-17 Competative Cudas = $400.00

Registration gets you practice time, attendance at swim meets and a team racing swim suit that you are fitted for during Rookie Week.  We will also have backpacks, team photos, t-shirts and other things available for families who would like to purchase them at an additional cost.  The club also requires that each family volunteer at 3 bingos per swimmer (to a maximum of 6 per family) throughout the season - we have a variety of dates to choose from to work best with your schedule.  Check out our Team Events page for Bingo dates. NO refunds after June 1.

How Often Are Swim Meets?

Swim meets are most Saturdays starting at the end of May with the exception of long weekends due to so many people going away.  The clubs in our Region are St. Albert, North Edmonton, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Devon, Drayton Valley, Westlock, Whitecourt, Hinton and Jasper.  Like practices, attending swim meets is not mandatory and is up to each family and we have some swimmers attend every meet while some only attend one or two.  As this is a competitive swim club we do encourage swimmers to attend as many as possible and any swimmers intending on swimming in Regionals or Provincials must attend at least one meet prior.

We encourage the parents of every swimmer who attends a meet to help out in some way.  All of the teams in our Region help out at everyone else's meets and it makes things a lot easier and faster.  Swim meets require a lot of volunteers but the positions are not hard and they are a great way to make the day more fun!

The Barracudas compete as a team within the Alberta Summer Swim Association "ASSA". The Barracudas follow all of the rules and guidelines that can be found in the ASSA website.
