About Us

The Deerfield Bluefins is a community summer swim team and is a member of the Irvine Swim League (ISL). The non-profit ISL is organized and operated exclusively for providing the various Irvine neighborhood swim teams with the opportunity to join and participate in a summer swim league, with an emphasis on water safety, stroke instruction and individual improvement.

According to the Irvine Swim League website the league was founded in 1985 when there were only 260 swimmers on five teams that first season. Now, representing twenty-two teams, over 2700 swimmers participated in the 2018 season.

Swim Practice Information

Practices are held every weekday in 2021 from June 7th to August 13th.  Swim practices are located at the Junior Olympic Pool adjacent to Rock Springs Park in Irvine.  Practice schedule indicates "in pool" time for swimmers.  Please ensure you arrive 15 minutes early to get ready and participate in team coaching/stretches 10 minutes before call time.  All personal items should be labeled with swimmers first and last name with a sharpie pen.

Swim Practice Attire

Please review the following supplies for our season that need to be with your swimmer at every practice. Please write your child’s first and last name on ALL personal items. We recommend keeping all your child’s towel and supplies in a bag with their name on it as well.  No shared items except between family members allowed.

Swim Meet Details

A tentative schedule of the Saturday swim meets is be posted on the "Events" tab once approved by the Deerfield HOA and ISL.  Our 2021 swim meets will most likely be intra-squad, with the goal on time improvements.  The intra-squad meets will be much shorter in time, as there will be fewer people.  Should it be permissable, there may be a possibility for dual meets with other local teams before the end of the season.

At this time, there will not be a snack bar and a masked, reduced occupancy will be allowed on deck.  We hope to keep these decisions fluid as guidance allows and will communicate any changes with parents as the season gets underway.

Swim Meet Attire

Swimmers must wear competitive swim wear at all swim meets.  Click HERE for coach recommendations on our CAS team store; typically mandatory for all swim meets.  With the intrasquad meets in 2021, a plain royal blue competitive swimsuit with no team affiliations to any other swim clubs or schools will be permitted with President approval.  Stay tuned for instructions on this approval process if you do not purchase an official team swim suit from CAS.  If you plan on participating in the ISL Pentathalon or ISL Championships, a Bluefins official swim suit will be mandatory.

Swimmer Costs

  • Swimmer Fee Child 1 is $290 which includes:
    • A $50 Irvine Swim League fee,
    • One swimmer official Bluefins tee shirt,
    • One swimmer official Bluefins swim cap for the ISL Champs Swim Meet*,
    • Multiple swimmer per family discounts offered.
  • A $300 deposit check per family for volunteer committments.

* Provided ISL Champs Swim Meet proceeds as planned per the current COVID protocols.

Current COVID Procedures

The Deerfield Bluefins is working closely with the Irvine Swim League to ensure we are in compliance with City, County and State guidelines and regulations.  We are closely monitoring the changes to COVID protocols and will adapt these proceedures as needed.  Please be patient with us during this process as we expect our proceedures to adapt as our tiers and reopening plans change.

At this time, due to HOA pool capacity restrictions, plan on wearing a mask at all times while on the pool deck/restrooms and maintining an acceptable social distance from other families.  All persons 2+ years will be asked to use hand sanitizer prior to entering the pool facility.

During practice, the coaches in the water will wear face shields.  Swimmers will be limited to 6 kids per lane. There will be a 10 minute time period for clean-up between each swim group.  At this time, there will not be an open swim lane, as in prior years.  All 6 lanes will be used for practice to spread out swimmers.  At the end of practice times, all swimmers will be required to leave the pool deck.

According to the Deerfield HOA pool signage posted, the following guidelines should be followed:

  • By entering the pool area, you take responsibility for your own protection and for disinfecting your hands and anything you touch in the pool area.
  • Use your own handsanitizer before entering the pool facility.
  • Do not enter the pool area if you have a cough, fever or any symptoms of illness.
  • Per City of Irvine, wear a face covering when you are not in the swimming pool.
