The Lakers Aquatic Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Lakers Aquatic Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

Minnows - 
This group is our learn to swim group and is offered two days per week.  The main focus is the FUNdamentals: teaching proper body position, breathing techniques and stroke drills.  Swimmers in this group will be introduced to the 4 competetive swim strokes.

Swimmers are required to complete 4x50 yards of at least 2 of the competetive strokes (legally) in order to advance to the Speedster group. Additionally, athletes must be physically and mentally prepared to complete a 1 hour practice.



Speedsters - 
This group is offered as training for the early-competitive swimmer and trains four days per week.  The main focus will be working on stroke drills, streamlining, turns and breathing techniques required to move to the Junior competitive group. Swimmers in this group will be introduced to training concepts that include interval swimming.

Swimmers are required to complete 3x100 freestyle and 3x100 IM with minimal rest and perform all strokes and turns legally in order to move up. Additionally, athletes must be physically and mentally prepared to complete a 1.5 hour practice.

Junior -  
This group is for the competitive swimmer who has completed the goals in Speedsters.  This group practices five days per week, and the main emphasis of this group is still stroke technique and building endurance among all 4 strokes. Swimmers in this group will be introduced to plyometric exercises and stretches in order to build stregth and prevent injury.

Swimmers need to be able to perform the 500 freestyle in less than 7:30, complete 5x100 freestyle @ 1:45, and 5x100 IM @ 2:00 in order to advance to the Intermediate group.  Additionally, athletes must be physically and mentally prepared to complete a 2 hour practice.

Intermediate -  
This group is for the more experienced swimmer who has completed the goals in the Junior group.  This group practices five days per week and the main emphasis of this group is still stroke technique and endurance training with the introduction of race strategy.  In addition to swimming and plyometric training, TRX bands and medicine ball exercises will be introduced. 

Swimmers need to be able to complete a timed 400 IM and 1000 Free, 8x100 Free @ 1:40, and 5x100 IM @ 1:50 in order to advance to Senior group.  

Senior - 
This group is for the older, experienced swimmer, who has demonstrated excellent attendance and leadership in the Intermediate group. The Senior group has a practice attendance expectation of five days per week. They must show an ability to train as described in the Guidelines for Advancement. Good flexibility is required as is a demonstrated ability to push oneself through challenging training sets required to compete at the open state level of swimming. The main emphasis will be stroke technique, conditioning and intense training of all energy systems of the body.  The swimmer in this group has made a clear commitment to their sport and training.

Swimmers in this group are dedicated and attend practice on a daily basis.  Swimmers in this group are high school age and/or high-level 12+ swimmers who are pursuing Sectional, Jr National, Sr National and Olympic Trial time standards.

High School Swimmers looking to continue training will train with the Senior Group.

Minnows: 3 payments of $60 offered 2 practices / week / 45 minutes

Speedsters: 3 payments of $150 per month / offered 4 practices / week / 1 hour 

Junior: 3 payments of $160 per month / offered 4 practices / week / 1.25 hours

Intermediate: 3 payments of $180 per month / offered 5 practices / week / 2 hours  

Senior: 3 payments of $210 per month / offered 6 practices / week / 2 hours

Please note that all families are REQUIRED to sign up for online bill pay. Online bill pay is the only accepted form of payment. Most of our families already participate in this. Monthly dues, meet/other fees must be paid by credit/debit card or ACH/Electronic check. Account balances will be charged on the 1th of each month. Dues/fees will no longer be accepted at the pool or by mail.

Lakers Aquatic Club – North (Not currently open for Spring/Summer 2021)

Lakers – North will be coached by Riley Shea. In addition to having been a member of the Lakers Coaching Staff for a 4+ seasons, Riley has recently assumed the role of Head Coach for both Varsity Swim Teams at Anchor Bay High School. Riley trained and competed with the Lakers between 2009 and 2012, under former Head Coach Bryce Pitters, who currently works as the Assistant Swim and Dive Coach for Wayne State University. He competed for L’Anse Creuse High School, competing at the State level in multiple seasons.

Groups & Fees
 

Senior AB - $
 

Group ideal for the high school swimmer or experienced competitive swimmer (13+) looking to continue learning, training, and competing in the sport year-round. Meets are offered, and encouraged, but not required. Instruction includes advanced stroke technique, feedback, and refinement, as well as more physically challenging, interval-based workouts.

Junior AB - $
 

Intermediate group ideal for younger competitive swimmers (10-13) who have surpassed the requirements for completion of the Speedster Group (3x100 IM with legal strokes and 3x100 Freestyle, all with 20 seconds rest between each. Stroke technique focus is retained, while swimmers are instructed in more difficult drills and interval-based workouts become a staple of the daily practice.

Speedster AB - $

Group ideal for newer swimmers (7-10) with a minimum requirement of: one 25-meter lap of both front crawl and backstroke. Meets are offered, and encouraged, but not required. Instruction includes introductory stroke technique, feedback, and refinement for all racing strokes, while gently introducing the swimmer to interval-based workouts.
