The
Grande Prairie Aquarians Summer Swim Club is a competitive summer
swim club that has been in operation for more than 30 years. The
club promotes the development of young swimmers through healthy
activity as well as promotes sportsmanship and healthy competition.
The club ranges in ages from 4 to 19 and ranges in
ability, from novice and above. Swimmers practice and compete from
May to mid-August. Swimmers train 3-5 days per week at the
Eastlink Centre under trained coaches that provide both swimming
and dryland or conditioning training. Competitions are held on
weekends throughout Northern Alberta beginning May 25. The Club
hosts their competition in late June at the Eastlink Centre
typically hosting 250 swimmers. The club is non-profit and
aside from a modest monetary fee required for each swimmer the
balance of the club costs which includes lane time, competition
entrance fees, and coaching is obtained through fundraising and
generous donations. Over the years the Club has successfully
trained Provincial Medalists; both individual competitors and
relay teams as well as Provincial Record Holders. Come
