Swim Groups
The AquaKids Sharks offer training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of our program to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

Program Hierarchy

Listed below are the names and general descriptions for the different practice groups we have within our program! Also listed is the scientific name for each SHARK along with the size (of the shark; not the group)!
 

Continuing Education "CE" Shark Groups:
(General Group Descriptions)

Angel Sharks & Leopard Sharks

Squatina dumerlli  4 feet  100 lbs. & Triakis semifasciata  5 feet  100 lbs.

This group is for swimmers who've taken one session of our regular (daily) lesson program and have basic swim and water safety skills. They will continue to further develop their swimming and water safety skills which includes "Humpty Dumpty", "Superman Kick", and "Roll Overs". Then we develop Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke plus introduce Butterfly. They are 30 minute lessons that practice 2 times per week, M/W or T/Th. Leopard Sharks may compete in our SHARK Races with approval from the coach!

Sand Sharks

Caracharhinus milberti      6 feet       100 lbs.

The Sand Shark group is for swimmers who can swim 50 feet of Freestyle with side breathing and 50 feet of Backstroke. This group continues to develop the Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly. Then inroduces Breaststroke plus Racing Starts and Finishes. They practice for 45 minutes, 2 times per week on M/W or T/Th. Sand Sharks compete in our SHARK Races!

Bull Sharks

Carcharhinus leucas      10 feet     200 lbs.

Pre-Swim Team FUNdamental Groups: Swimmers in this group must be competent in Freestyle and Backstroke and will develop all four competitive strokes, racing skills, introduce endurance training, plus compete in SHARK RACES! Practices are 45 minutes, 2 times/week on M/W or T/Th with the option of attending Blue Shark practices on Friday/Saturdays. And, with coaches’ approval, race in sanctioned competitions.

Blue Sharks

Prionace glauca     13 feet     300 lbs.

Swim Team with FUNdamental & Competitive Levels: FUNdamental group swimmers are competent in Freestyle and Backstroke plus have basic knowledge of Breast & Fly, race in SHARK Races and with coaches’ approval, race in sanctioned competitions. Competitive group swimmers are legal in all four strokes and race in SHARK Races and sanctioned competitions. Practices are 1 hour (or more); 3 to 4 times per week.

Dusky Sharks

Carcharhinus obscurus     14 feet     500 lbs.

Swim Team FUNdamental Group: For Middle School swimmers who have knowledge of and wish to develop all 4 competitive strokes. Plus, have the desire to improve and possibly become a competitive swimmer. They race in SHARK Races and with coaches’ approval, in sanctioned competitions.  1 to 1.5 hour practices, 2 to 4 times per week.

Hammerhead Sharks

Sphyrna mokarran    15 feet     800 lbs.

Swim Team FUNdamental Group: For High School swimmers who have knowledge of and wish to develop all 4 competitive strokes. Plus, have the desire to improve and possibly become a competitive swimmer. They race in SHARK Races and with coaches’ approval, in sanctioned competitions.  1 to 1.5 hour practices; 3 to 5 times per week.

Mako Sharks

Isurus oxyrinchus    12 feet     1,000 lbs.

Swim Team "Elite" Competitive Group: Our elite “age group” competitive swimmers who have committed to the sport, are competent in all 4 strokes, plus are mentally and physically capable of handling the rigors of training and competitive swimming. Swimmers in this group are striving for personal excellence and the highest levels in swimming. A Swimmer, Parent, Coach Meeting is required for admittance. Swimmers race in SHARK Races and sanctioned competitions. Practices are 2 or more hours; 5-8 times per week.

Great White Sharks

Carchaodon carcharias     36 feet     3,000 lbs.

Swim Team "Elite" Competitive Group: Our elite “senior” competitive swimmers who have committed to the sport, excel in all 4 strokes, and are mentally and physically capable of handling the rigors of training and competitive swimming. Swimmers in this group are striving for personal excellence and the highest levels in swimming and are held to the highest level of personal responsibility. A Swimmer, Parent, Coach Meeting is required for admittance. Swimmers race in limited SHARK Races and sanctioned competitions. Practices are 2 to 5 hours; 9 times per week including 2-a-days.

Basking & Whale Sharks

Cetorhinus maximus & Rhincodon typus     45 feet     10,000 lbs.

Adult/Masters Group : This group is for adults with basic swim skills desiring to improve and keep in shape. Practices are MWF 5:00 - 8:00 AM and 12:00 noon -1:30 pm!
