In 1968 Dave Clutchey, a teacher at Centennial CVI established a
competitive swim club. Practices were held at Centennial Pool and
club direction was managed by the Guelph Parks & Recreation
Department. The club grew larger, stronger and gradually volunteer
coaches were replaced with paid professionals. With the opening of
the Victoria Road Recreation Centre in 1975 the club moved its
entire program to the new facility. The City of Guelph relinquished
control of the club and the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club began its
history as an independent non-profit swim club.
Forty years later GMAC coaches oversee more than 400 athletes
from ages 4 to 70+ training in our swim school program, competitive
swim groups, masters group, as well as in our summer only programs
of triathlon and competitive lifesaving.
