Granbury S.E.A.L.S. Swim Team begins 28th Season

General Info:The Granbury SEALS Swim Team is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide a wholesome environment in which swimmers of all ages may learn and improve the basic fundamentals of competitive swimming. We are affiliated with the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF), following their rules and guidelines for swim meets.

Philosophy:The SEALS is a competitive swim team committed to promoting the sport of swimming in our community. The lessons include proper stroke technique, a competitive spirit, a sense of fair play, self-discipline, teamwork, and organized games.

In addition to striving for these standards, and environment is established in which swimmers, parents, and coaches can form positive relationships which will promote the camaraderie and friendships. This setting will provide opportunities for positive role models for the younger swimmers and good healthy mixed friendships among all who participate.

The team is designed to encourage maximum participation, provide an educational experience, enhance physical and mental conditioning, provide a team experience, and develop a rich base of swim talent in an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and enjoyment. A sense of independence, self-reliance, and organizational skills will be nourished in all swimmers. A healthy motivation for self improvement and advancement will be attained by providing recognition for all participants.

History:The SEALS started in 1990 with 24 swimmers, practicing at the DeCordova pool, and competing with other country clubs such as Pecan Plantation and Ridglea Swim Club. We joined TAAF in 1991, with practice moving to the Granbury Racquet House (Center for Health & Fitness). The Granbury City Pool became our base in 1993, operating with the assistance of Granbury Continuing Education, which managed the pool. In 1993 we also hosted our first circuit meet, with over 400 swimmers from four teams competing. The SEALS have grown from 60 members in 1994, to nearly 300 in 2008. We traditionally send a strong contingent to the state meet, many of whom have set state records which continue to stand!

We are happy to be swimming at the Hood County YMCA. We will host the two circuit meets here, June 9th and June 23rd.This 25 yard, eight lane pool will provide a wonderful place for us to train.

SEAL PUPS program: We are excited to be able to offer the SEAL PUPS program again, with practices at the Comanche Cove Association Pool, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10:00-11:00 am. PUPS are ages 3 and up, with a limit of 40 total. Children must be willing to work in a group, and not afraid of the water. This is a great way to get kids started! Cost is $56.00 for the team fee and an additional $12.00 for pool use. PUPS roster will include returning children admitted first, then new PUPS accepted as room permits. PUPS practice Session I runs Jne 6th thru June 29th. Session II runs July 3rd thru July 26th. Once the first session is full, we will begin to fill the second session. We are happy to be swimming the PUPS at Comanche Cove again this summer.

Team Structure:The pool is divided into 6 lanes, and each age group session is separated according to their individual swimming abilities. Lane 1 is the starting point, with the minimum requirement being that the individual can swim 1 length of the pool without holding onto the lane lines or touching the bottom of the pool, in order to swim in a meet. As swimmers progress in ability, they move up in lanes, allowing for individual development among swimmers of similar ability.

All swimmers are eligible to compete in 3 events at each circuit meet, as well as the regional meet. The top 6 finishers in each event at regional will qualify for the state meet.

A Swimmer-of-the-Week is awarded at the end of the year party, signifying an individual who has best exemplified hard work, positive attitude, teamwork, and attendance. We also give Swimmer-of-the-Year and Fighting Heart awards at the year end party.
