What is Hilton Head Aquatics
(H2A)?
H2A is a non-profit local competitive swimming club in the South
Carolina LSC. We are a USA Swimming team member and part of the
Southern Section of the Eastern Zone. H2A members include new
swimmers to the sport, all the way up to national level swimmers.
Our 3 member coaching staff is highly qualified with almost 40
years of experience among them coaching swimmers at every
level.
Team
Mission
Hilton Head Aquatics is a non-profit organization and
member of USA swimming, founded in 1984. Our Mission is to promote and
encourage the growth, enjoyment and development of competitive
swimming. We provide swimmers with the opportunity to reach their
full potential and earn success in the sport through dedication,
perseverance and hard work. Through their actions, swimmers
learn key skills that they will carry with them throughout
life.
Group
Structure
There are multiple training groups (5) based on swimmers' mental
and physical skill sets. Under our structure, swimmers move
up on their own individual paths through the
sport. We do not move swimmers up before they are ready, to
strengthen their enjoyment/fulfillment of the sport and to
prevent burn out.
Triangle Team
Philosophy
H2A has a three-part philosophy where each member has a specific
role in making the team successful:
Coaching
Philosophy
Our team has a long term, progression based philosophy. We help
develop the "Whole Swimmer" and focus on all four
strokes; swimming, training and racing a wide range
of events that allow our swimmers to have the best opportunity for
future success. We do not pigeonhole swimmers by just focusing on
one stroke or specific events at a young age. In addition we set up
our swimmers who wish to continue in college or masters swimming
after they are finished at H2A.
Swimmer
Philosophy
Our swimmer philosophy is "You Only Deserve What You Earn". We
focus on team, goal setting, self-empowerment, understanding
discipline, coachability, sacrifice and the importance of
consistency.
Parent
Philosophy
Parents are the final part of the triangle of success. Our
parent philosophy is for each parent to not only support his
or her own swimmers but all swimmers/families on H2A. Parents have
a crucial part in supporting the coaching staff and the swimmers
through volunteer hours, duties and obligations needed to drive
our organization.
The Way We
Work
H2A is a network and synergy of coaches, parents, and
swimmers, each having their spedific role
and duties in helping the team. The coaches take
care of all coaching related duties (the wet side) and the
parent-elected board, committee members
and volunteers take care of the administrative work (the
dry side) to provide
the swimmers the opportunity to pursue their
goals in the sport. We are a drama free team that prides
itself on everyone doing their part to help make H2A what
it is today. If you are looking to coach or manage your
swimmer's athletic career H2A is definitely
not the place for you!
TEAM
HISTORY
Hilton Head Swimming began in 1984 to provide a summer swimming
program for Island youth and is one of the oldest Non-For-Profit
groups on Hilton Head. The swim team is now known as Hilton
Head Aquatics or H2A. A volunteer Board of Directors elected by the
membership governs Hilton Head Aquatics. The Board, along with the
three coaches, and volunteer from the families and swimmers,
strive to achieve a level of excellence in competitive
swimming.
In 1991, the team progressed to a year round competitive
swimming program. By 1995, over sixty-five swimmers participated in
the year round program. H2A has continued to grow in size and
scope with participants from Hilton Head and the Beaufort
County area. Members of the team attend public and private schools
in these communities. The year round program, sanctioned by USA
Swimming, is comprised of swimmers between the ages of 5
and 19.
The rigorous training required year-round to compete in the
sport of swimming produces positive results outside the pool such
as self-discipline, time management, and goal
setting. Many of our team members are honor roll
students, academic achievement award winners, including Academic
All-Americans. Additionally, they are involved in
leadership positions at their schools, which will enable them to be
future leaders of our community.
