About WSAC

The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, Ltd. is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation that maintains and conducts programs in the region's most unique and important competitive aquatic facility - the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center (WSAC).

The Mission of WSAC programs is to both promote excellence and prepare youth for success in college and ultimately, prepare each for life.  The WSAC, Ltd is open to people of all ages regardless of income.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee built the North Suburban Branch YMCA in 1977 and was subsequently the recipient of a gift from the Walter Schroeder Foundation to construct one of the finest competitive aquatic facilities in the world. At the time, the gift of $4.5 million was the largest in the history of the YMCA of the USA. The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center was completed in 1979 and has since been the foundation of competitive aquatics in Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center was completed in 1979 and has continuously served southeast Wisconsin, the larger region, and the United States as a premier competitive aquatics venue. The Schroeder pool is known to be a "fast" competition pool because of its engineering and specifications. It is one of two indoor Olympic sized pool (50 meters) in Wisconsin that can host large events. Additionally, the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center is the only facility in the region that has 10 meter diving platforms.  The WSAC has been host to NCAA Championships of all three divisions, USA Swimming and USA Diving National and Junior Championships, as well as many LSC, Regional Championships and large invitationals.

In 2008, the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee sold the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center to the non-profit group with the hope that the then newly formed non-profit could successfully renovate and continue to operate the facility into the foreseeable future.  The generous donations of many to match philanthropists' Mark & Sue Irgens Challenge Gift enabled the financing and completion of renovations and helped secure the facility for future generations.

The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, the Ascension Health medical clinic and the YMCA will make up a Healthy Lifestyle Village that are three separate corporate entities: a 60,000 square foot clinic on the north end of the property is owned and operated by Ascension Health; the Rite Hite Family YMCA; and the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. These three entities work together to provide the community with a unique combination of competitive athletic programs, healthy lifestyle programs and medical services.
