2021 Summer Team Information

Due to the pandemic, our team operations will be limited this summer to ensure a safe experience for our families. We hope to resume our normal operations in Summer, 2022. Some key changes:

  • Groups will be limited to 16 swimmers to ensure social distancing with four swimmers per lane. Our team size will be limited to 50-60 swimmers. (This is approximately 100 swimmers less than normal.)

  • Due to our limited space, we will not be able to accept swimmers registered with other swim teams (such as USA Swimming clubs) this summer. This is so we can provide an opportunity for new swimmers in the Lakeway community who currently have no swim team options to join.

  • NEW swimmers must complete an evaluation prior to registering (April 19, 20, or 21 at 3:15-3:45pm at the Lakeway Swim Center).

  • We will strictly enforce our minimum swimming requirements of being able to swim across the pool. There will be no "in-water coaches" this summer, so swimmers must be independent (and safe) in the water, without requiring assistance. We will make a judgement call for swimmers who are "rusty" and need to take a little break on the lane line to complete one lap.

  • Our team will compete in three intrasquad meets at the Lakeway Swim Center (in the mornings, on May 15, June 5, and June 12). Our team will not participate in dual swim meets with other Austin Hills Swim League teams.

  • Our team will not participate in the All Star meet.

  • Swimmers who are competitive and very proficient are encouraged to join a USA Swimming club team this summer. Please contact our year-round partner club, Lost Creek Aquatics at Lakeway, which practices at the Lakeway Swim Center, for more information.

The Lakers team is a nonprofit organization in the State of Texas and is federally exempt under Section 501(c)(7) of the IRS code. The team is run entirely by volunteers and is completely self-funded. Membership is open to swimmers who meet the eligibility requirements. We offer a fun and supportive environment for beginning and experienced swimmers, stroke development and stroke refinement, and competitive events at which to swim. Swimmers on our team range in age from 5 to older teens, and our swimmers have a range of abilities, from experienced summer leaguers to newbies. Our summer season is about good swimming and good sportsmanship, in a fun, neighborhood setting.

Summer 2021 Swim Team in a Nutshell:

Registration will open at 7:00am on April 22, 2021. All registrations are completed online using our team website. We will accept swimmers in the order received, and registration will close automatically on May 13, 2021 or when the team reaches its enrollment cap.

Registration is $175 per swimmer. The registration fee includes coach instruction, the required league insurance, City of Lakeway pool rental fees, team expenses (such as credit card transaction fees, website expenses, equipment, meet expenses, etc), ribbons and medals, and end-of-season awards. The only thing you will purchase separately is the required team suit, swimming fins, and goggles. After your swimmer's registration has been accepted and payment has been made, we will not offer any refunds, for any reason, except for season cancelation. If you change your mind, we will offer a $75 refund until May 7, 2021, if requested in writing by that date. After that date, there will be no refunds for any reason.

To be eligible for swim team, your child must be at least 5 years old as of May 1, 2021, be able to swim one lap (25 yards) of elementary freestyle, AND be ready to participate in a team setting. Coaches will evaluate all swimmers during the first week of practice to make sure that they meet the swimming eligibilty requirements. Swimmers who do not meet the eligibility requirements during the first week of practice will be dismissed on May 7, 2021 and given a refund of $75 of the registration fee. Swimmers who do not attend the first week of practice and who are dismissed after May 7, 2021, will not receive refunds.

This summer, evaluations for all new swimmers is mandatory. We will hold new swimmer evaluations at the Lakeway Swim Center from 3:15-3:45pm from April 19-21, 2021. (No appointment required; just bring your child for a quick swim with the coaches.) Children participating in tryouts must be with a parent or guardian (no drop-offs, please).

If your child does not meet the minimum swimming requirements or is not ready to participate on swim team, please consider participating in swim lessons instead of swim team. The Lakeway Swim Center offers swim lessons to children of all ages, starting in June, and continuing throughout the summer.

Swimmers must be ages 5 to 17 as of May 1, 2021. There is no residency requirement to be on our team, and you do not need to be a member of the Lakeway Swim Center.

All swimmers must participate in swim meets. We do not offer a "practice only" option for swimmers. If your child cannot participate in swim meets, please do not sign up for swim team. Please contact the lead volunteers to discuss specific needs for swimmers with disabilities or schedule conflicts.

The season will begin on May 3, 2021 and end on June 12, 2021. Practice times are based on swimmer age as of May 1, 2021, for the entire season. Please note that we do not allow swimmers to switch practice groups so please make sure that your child can attend practice at his or her designated practice time. (Click here for practice times.) During the school year, practices are after school. When school ends, practices will be in the mornings. All practices are at the Lakeway Swim Center.

Our team participates in the Austin Hills Swim League, which has nine other teams in the Austin area. Our team has elected not to host or attend any dual meets with other teams this summer. The Lakers will host three intrasquad meets at the Lakeway Swim Center, instead, for only members of the Lakers team. Our meet schedule is posted below. Please note that our meet schedule is subject to change. Meets will be in the mornings at the Lakeway Swim Center, with warmups starting at approximately 7:00am and finishing around 10:45am.

  • Saturday May 15
  • Saturday June 5
  • Saturday June 12

Our team will not participate in the league's All Star meet. Swimmers may not attend this meet "on their own."

Swimmers who want to continue swimming in practices and optional meets after our summer season ends can join our partner club, Lost Creek Aquatics at Lakeway, which practices at the Lakeway Swim Center in the mornings. When school resumes, Lost Creek Aquatics practices after school. Lost Creek Aquatics is a year-round USA Swimming club and membership is open to any swimmer.
