All About CatTracks SwimTeam
Fair Acres Family YMCA swim team, later named
CatTracks, began team practices
in the fall of 2006 with nearly 20 swimmers. CatTracks began as an
off-season
conditioning and technique improvement program for competitive
swim team members
wanting to continue training during the school year. For those
completing traditional
swim lessons, CatTracks provides an opportunity to continue
learning in a structured
environment.
Since that time the number of swimmers and
opportunities for competition has grown. We have helped form
a league of swim teams from Area YMCA's that compete several times
a year. This past year a group travelled to the YMCA St.
Louis District Championships at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. 9
swimmers qualified for finals. Swimmers are not
required to compete in order to participate
in the team. Some of our best competitors on the team today once
said “I don’t want
to compete … I just like to swim.” Our philosophy is
to encourage, but not require,
swimmers to participate in competitions. We work to make meets fun
and rewarding for
all swimmers.
