Lakers Team Sponsors and Partners

2018 Team Information

The Lakers team is a nonprofit organization in the State of Texas and is federally exempt under Section 501(c)(7) of the IRS code. The team is run entirely by volunteers and is completely self-funded. Membership is open to swimmers who meet the eligibility requirements. We offer a fun and supportive environment for beginning and experienced swimmers, stroke development and stroke refinement, and competitive events at which to swim. Swimmers on our team range in age from 5 to older teens, and our swimmers have a range of abilities, from experienced summer leaguers to newbies. Our summer season is about good swimming and good sportsmanship, in a fun, neighborhood setting.

Summer 2018 Swim Team in a Nutshell:

Registration opens to returning members in good standing on March 26, 2018 and to new members on April 2, 2018. A "member in good standing" is defined as a family on the Summer 2017 team that completed its service requirement to the team by working at least three swim meets or equivalent jobs. All registrations are completed online using our team website. We will accept swimmers in the order received, and registration will close automatically on April 20, 2018 or when the team reaches its enrollment cap.

Registration is $220 per swimmer, with a $20 discount for siblings when they are registered in the same transaction, plus your time working three swim meets during our season. The $220 registration fee includes a team t-shirt, team swim cap, coach instruction, team events (including the end-of-season awards party), the required league insurance, City of Lakeway pool rental fees, team expenses (such as credit card transaction fees, website expenses, equipment, meet expenses, etc), ribbons and medals, and end-of-season awards and trophies. The only thing you will purchase separately is the required team suit and goggles. After your swimmer's registration has been accepted and payment has been made, we will offer a $100 refund of the registration fee upon written withdrawal from the team until the end of practices on Friday, May 4, 2018. After May 4, 2018, there will be no refunds given for any reason, including but not limited to medical withdrawals and/or failing to meet swimming eligibility requirements.

To be eligible for swim team, your child must be able to swim one lap (25 yards) of elementary freestyle AND be ready to participate in a team setting. Coaches will evaluate all swimmers during the first week of practice to make sure that they meet the swimming eligibilty requirements. Swimmers who do not meet the eligibility requirements during the first week of practice will be dismissed on May 4, 2018 and given a refund of $100 of the registration fee. Swimmers who do not attend the first week of practice and who are dismissed after May 4, 2018, will not receive refunds.

The best way to ensure that your swimmer is ready for swim team is to try out first. We will hold new swimmer evaluations at the Lakeway Swim Center from 3:30-4:00pm from April 2-4, 2018. (No appointment required; just bring your child for a quick swim with the coaches.) Children participating in tryouts must be with a parent or guardian (no drop-offs, please).

If your child does not meet the minimum swimming requirements or is not ready to participate on swim team, please consider participating in swim lessons instead of swim team. The Lakeway Swim Center offers swim lessons to children of all ages, starting in June, and continuing throughout the summer.

Swimmers must be ages 5 to 17 as of May 1, 2018. There is no residency requirement to be on our team, and you do not need to be a member of the Lakeway Swim Center.

All swimmers must participate in swim meets. We do not offer a "practice only" option for swimmers. If your child cannot participate in swim meets, please do not sign up for swim team. Please contact the lead volunteers to discuss specific needs for swimmers with disabilities or schedule conflicts.

All families on the team must agree to work at least THREE swim meets and/or swim team jobs during our season. This requirement applies to all families on the team. It takes more than 50 people from each team to run each of our seven swim meets, and we need everyone’s help. We will work hard to make sure that everyone is trained and in the right job. If you’re new to the sport of swimming, we’ll help find you the right job!

Practices begin on April 30, 2018 and continue through June 22, 2018. Practice times are based on swimmer age as of May 1, 2018, for the entire season. Please note that we do not allow swimmers to switch practice groups so please make sure that your child can attend practice at his or her designated practice time. (Click here for practice times.) During the school year, practices are after school. When school ends, practices will be in the mornings. All practices are at the Lakeway Swim Center.

Our team participates in the Austin Hills Swim League, which has nine other teams in the Austin area. We will participate in six dual meets with different teams each week. Meets are on Friday evenngs or on Saturday mornings. The Lakers will host three meets at the Lakeway Swim Center. Meets last about four hours and are a lot of fun! Our TENTATIVE meet schedule is posted below. Please note that our meet schedule is subject to change. Swimmers generally will need to arrive by 6:45am to 7:00am for morning meets and by 4:00pm for afternoon meets. Meets usually finish around 11:30am or 8:30pm.

The season ends on Monday, June 25, 2018, with swimmers who have earned qualifying times participating in the All Star meet, which is our League Championship.

Swimmers who want to continue swimming in practices and optional meets after our summer season ends can join our partner club, Lost Creek Aquatics, which practices at the Lakeway Swim Center in the mornings with Coach Janet Risser. When school resumes, Lost Creek Aquatics practices after school. Lost Creek Aquatics is a USA Swimming club and membership is open to any swimmer.
