Welcome to the Greenbrier Seahawks
swim team. This link provides general information for team members
and those interested in becoming a member of our team. As a summer
league swim team, this website is active primarily during the
summer swim season, but it’s periodically/infrequently
updated throughout the year as new information becomes available.
You may refer to other subject specific links of this website for
additional information.
The Greenbrier Country Club (GCC)
Seahawks are a member of the Virginia Beach Swim League (VBSL). The
Seahawks and the VBSL promote competitive and fun summer swimming.
The VBSL consists of over 20 teams devoted to the development of
summer swimming in the Southeastern Hampton Roads area. The teams
are divided into 4 Divisions (Dolphin, Marlin, Porpoise, &
Tarpon) based on “time-in-water” calculations. This
division and grouping provides an equitable level of competition
for teams and swimmers.
Swimmers compete in five age groups :
6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 18 & Under.
Younger swimmers are encouraged to
participate in our developmental program, and can start
competing when they are ready. All skill levels are
welcome to participate in Team social activities.
Swimmers must have Greenbrier Club
Affiliation. Club family member, including visiting
grandchildren or family members of club employee are welcome.
Registration fee is $110 for the first child, $100 for the second,
etc.
Team Registration Dates:
Thursday, May 1st & 15th from 6-8 pm and Saturday, May
17th from 10-12 noon. Or, drop off your registration form at
the club front desk before May 23th. The team membership fee
includes all coaching fees, league dues, team tee shirt and the
cost of several social events.

PRACTICES: Afternoon
practices, dry land and in the pool, begin in mid-May.
Morning/afternoon practices begin in mid-June once school is out
for the summer.
DUAL MEETS: The
Seahawks typically swim in four or five dual meets per season in
June and July. Please see the Meet & Practice Schedule link for
more specific meet/practice information.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS:
Swimmers qualify for the VBSL Division and All Star Championship
meets based on best times, attendance, attitude, and selection by
coaches. The meets are the first two Saturdays following the dual
meet season.
AGE GROUP ASSIGNMENT
is based on the swimmer’s age as of 15 June of the current
year. High school graduates, 18 & U, are eligible; however,
swimmers who swim for a college team are ineligible for VBSL meets
regardless of age.
SWIMMER ELIGIBILITY &
LIMITATIONS: Swimmers are eligible to swim in 3 individual
events of different strokes and 2 relays per dual meet. Swimmers
qualify for Championship Meets, but the same
eligibility/limitations apply.
SWIM MEET EVENTS:
Swimmers swim various events and distances (Free, Breast,
Individual Medley, Back, and Fly) and Mixed, Free, and Medley
Relays.
SCORING: Points are
awarded only to the two fastest swimmers/relays in heats 1 & 2
from each team. Dual meets: individual & relays:
1st=5, 2nd=3, 3rd=2
&4th=1 points. Championship meets: individual:
1st=7, 2nd=5, 3rd=4,
4th=3, 5th=2 & 6th=1 points;
relays: 1st=14, 2nd=10, 3rd=8,
4th=6, 5th=4 & 6th=2
points.
