The Lake Isle Swim
and Dive Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers
from ages 5 to 17. A swimmer must not be older than 17 as of
July 1. It is the goal of the Lake Isle Swimming and Diving
Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes
geared towards challenging each individual and developing
each to the best of THEIR abilities. We compete in dual
meets for the month of July followed by championship meets in
August.
The
Preteam program allows young swimmers to be
instructed in competitive swimming techniques, preparing them for
the Team. To join our Preteam, a child must be between the ages of
5 and 8, able to swim the width of the pool twice with minimal
assistance, have the ability to be on their backs in the water and
put their face underwater while stroking. Preteam practices
are from 12:30 to 1:30 PM each day after school is out until the
last Friday in July. All our coaches can assist you with
private lessons. Please speak to them
directly.
Please see the Swim Group Tab for more
detail on the Swim, Dive and
Preteam.
FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. REQUIREMENTS TO
JOIN THE TEAM
- The Family
must be a member of Lake Isle. (There is an exception for Town
residents over 16; in that case a junior membership is sufficient,
but you must live in Eastchester, Tuckahoe or Bronxville just like
for the pool resident membership. If you are an out-of-town
resident the front desk may tell you a Junior Membership is
sufficient. It is to be a member of the pool but not the
team. This is a conference rule and we must enforce
it.)
- The ability
to swim at least two
strokes.
2.
PRACTICE
-
The first Monday in June
will be the first day of practice for all, including returning team
members. This
includes any Preteam member from the year before who wishes to move
up to the Team level. Attendance is important; we understand there
are still many obligations during the month of June so it is
important that the swimmers attend as many practices as
possible. Check out the calendar for the practice times which
are between 3:30 to 5:30 PM and divided by age
group.
- After the
Eastchester Schools are out of session for the year (June 26,
2020), practice is in the morning and is scheduled
between 8:30 to 11:30 AM and ranges from 1 hour to 2
hours. Groups are divided by age and ability. The Head
Coach will advise your child which practice they will attend after
placement.
- Attendance
is required daily, Monday through Friday. No practice on the
weekends!
- Our Website
now has the ability to send a text to your phone when there is a
cancellation. Please
sign up online under your account for SMS (text messaging
capability). You can also list two additional emails to your
account. All email and SMS accounts must be verified or messages
will not be sent to
them.
3.
MEETS
- There are
five dual meets during the
season.
- This year
there will be 2 home meets at Lake Isle and 3 at other
clubs. Directions to all clubs are available online at
wcsc.usswim.net or on the Website under the
event.
- Swimmers can
compete in 4 strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and
Butterfly. A swimmer can only swim in 4 events at any meet;
diving counts as an event.
- Competition
is divided by boy/girl and age group: 6 & Under, 8 & Under,
10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under and 17 &
Under. Diving is 10 & Under, 13 & Under and 17 &
Under.
- There are
also relays at every dual meet where teams of 4 swimmers compete in
a freestyle race.
- While we are
a very competitive team, every child has an opportunity to
participate at meets.
- Please
notify the Coach of any times you will miss a meet in writing,
either by note at practice or through email. Having your
child mention it at practice is not effective
notice.
4.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS
- The
culmination of our competitive season takes place during the
“Counties” at Rye Playland Pool where we compete
against all of Westchester County’s Country Clubs and Pool
Teams. There are 4 nights of competition encompassing all
strokes, age groups from 10 and Unders and older (no 6 & Unders
or 8 & Unders), IM’s (individual medley-a race of all 4
strokes) and relays both medley (4 swimmers-one for each stroke)
and freestyle.
- The second
week of August finishes the competitive season with the
“Conferences” where Lake Isle competes only against
those teams in the (Southern) Westchester Swim Conference.
Specific age groups compete at trials on one of 3 days (6 &
Unders included). Finals for all age groups are held at the
Westchester Country Club on the last day, Thursday. Diving
competitions take place on the Friday before swimming
competitions.
- These
competitions require a certain level of skill, so not all teammates
participate, but all are invited to cheer on the
team.
5.
PRETEAM
We are very
proud of our Preteam Program where swimmers are instructed in
competitive swimming techniques, preparing them for the
Team. Please note these are not swim lessons for the child who
has not been in the pool before.
- To join our
Preteam, a child must be between the ages of 5 and 8, able to swim
the width of the pool twice with minimal assistance, have the
ability to be on their backs in the water and put their face
underwater while stroking. The child should be able to
swim in some form.
- Please see
the calendar for the dates to bring your child for a tryout.
There is a limit of approximately 50 swimmers, representing an 8:1
ratio of swimmers to
coach.
- Selection of
Preteam swimmers is at the discretion of the Head
Coach.
- All Preteam
applicants must register for the Preteam online and make
a payment in advance of the scheduled tryout dates. If
your child does not make the team, your money will be
refunded.
- Refunds for
children who decide not to participate after practice begins will
be made until June 30. You may request a refund by
emailing the Treasurer. Click on the Coaches & Board Tab
in the upper left hand corner for the
Treasurer.
- At the end
of the season we hold a Preteam Ribbon Meet, where our Preteam
members proudly display their accomplishments of the season and are
awarded medals. The children celebrate with an Italian Ice
Party afterwards.
- Preteam
members may be called on to swim in meets. The coaches will
let you know if your child is going to swim at a
meet.
6.
ANNUAL AWARDS FAMILY
DINNER
- The
Annual Awards Family Dinner at the club
for all team members and their families. We celebrate our
season, awarding participation trophies and special accomplishment
trophies. Our Publicity team provides us with a slide show
commentating our season. Children aged 14 and under are not
permitted to attend without an accompanying
adult.
7.
SWIMSUITS
- You will be
able to order your team suit and other Lake Isle merchandise
online. Info is available on our website. The swim suit fittings
will be on deck in the afternoons in June (please check the
calendar). You will have the opportunity to purchase other
Lake Isle merchandise as well, through the Team
Store.
- Team suits
are not required for Preteam members, but you may purchase
them.
- Team
T-shirts are provided to all members of the Team and Preteam
along with a Lake Isle swim cap, drawstring bag and an identifying
carabiner for their swim bags.
8.
COMMUNICATIONS
- Email is our
main form of communication. Please make sure we have your
correct email. We can take up to three email addresses and 2
SMS numbers. Please check the Team Website. We also send SMS or
text messages. The email or phone number must be verified to
receive emails or messages. If it is not verified it may be
removed by the system.
- We utilize
the team bulletin board located by the lap lanes to post results of
our meets and notify members of any special events or changes to
our schedule.
9.
VOLUNTEERS
- We are a
volunteer organization. Although we
receive assistance from the Town of Eastchester and the use of
the Pool from Lake Isle, all aspects of the Team are run by
volunteers, except for the
coaching.
- To run our
swim meets we require the assistance of our family members.
We also need assistance for the many events we sponsor for the
team. You can volunteer by signing up online after your
registration is complete.. We will train you for any or all
of the jobs you volunteer for and you will always have an
experienced person to assist you. You are able to watch and
enjoy your child’s swimming while timing, running, ribbon
writing or scoring.
- If you are
not available for swim meets, you can volunteer for one of our
Standing Committees.
- If you are
not able to participate at all, we do require an
“opt-out” fee be
paid.
- We will have
special training this year for scorers and
diving.
- Note:
The volunteer rule applies to Team Member parents and although we
welcome your help, families with only Preteam membership do not
have to volunteer or pay the “opt-out”
fee.
10.
COST
- Swim and
dive team registration fees are $150 for first child/ $125 for
second child and $100 for each child thereafter plus a one-time
family registration fee of $20 for the season. Preteam is
$185 for each child on the Preteam with a one-time
$20 per family registration fee. The sibling discount is not
applicable for Preteam. There is also a $50 opt-out fee if you do
not wish to volunteer for the season (please note the opt-out only
pertains during the regular season and not during Championship
weeks in August).
